05 Inspire problems

3 Cat dealers have investigate delayed throttle response problem. The second dealer, Thompson Machinery in Memphis replaced our high pressure fuel injection pump & engine computer program. Cat had issued letters to dealers to replace computer program, to replace or repair high pressure F. I. pump & to move heater hose connection for more dash heat. After Thompson service, initially cat C9 seemed strong and throttle response was much less delayed. Since then, our toad is wet with fuel & black with soot. Fuel use went from about 6.5 M/G to 5.1 M/G while towing 6500# @ 62 M/H. The change in fuel use has been bothersome as we must often stop for fuel. Riggs in Fort Smith found failure codes on all 6 injectors but could not get attention of Caterpillar that day. Mechanic predicted new engine computer as cure, but Cat did not have time to talk to mechanic. We would have been at least 3 days @ Riggs. A second day to replay diagnostic games with Cat on phone & third day for overnight delivery & installation of parts. 10 miles past Riggs 7 new failure codes were recorded. Maybe we can stay @ next dealer long enough to get resolution. We will probably go to Mustang Cat in Houston for service. One Cat representative said C9 road engine is a niche product that few truck dealers are familiar with.
This is mostly to let Cat owners know of situation. Have you already solved black smoke, injector over current & excess fuel use problems? Caterpillar will probably cure the problems soon as we have a week free to be @ shop. Maybe when this is done we can get near 8 M/G??
Still happy not to have Cumins with CAC, manifold & radiator problems.
Also happy to not have electronic toilet!
