Kwikee Electric Steps

I know there have been many posts about the electric steps, but can't find one that addresses my problem.
I can no longer make the step stay out when parked. I thought I had read on one of the posts that the wiring for the unit was in the panel in front of the passenger seat. When I popped that open I saw dozens of wires, but no way to indicate which, if any, were for the electric step except of course, the Step on/off switch itself. Those wires were properly attached.

Can anyone give me advice? I checked the Kwikee web site but couldn't get an answer to my question.

The 4 wire plug for the steps is under the front of coach just behind steps. Check your owners manual. It has a clear description of four electrical checks at the step plug using a vom that will tell you if you have power, your ignition override works, are properly grounded and that the step override switch works properly. It sounds like your step overide switch is not working or as I experienced my plug ground was dirty. You can check the step overide switch, which is on wall in front of passenger seat with a vom. Unscrew switch from wall. You should only have 12 volt power on one side when in off position & both sides when switch is on.

I just played with my step for three weeks and got it fixed! There is a buttonin the door frame that was kaput on mine! I had the control unit replaced, but that was OK to begin with! I don't know what Coach you have, I have a Allure and had to crawl under the coach for the repair.
That switch is a pain in the b...... to get out but that was my problem! My steps did not want to go back in! If I can help any further let me know...................

It is your door open/closed switch, I just went tru the same problem, mine was out and did not want to go in!

I agree with the last post. It could be the door switch. Mine has failed twice in the past two years. Problem is that the contactor spring inside the switch housing is broken. When the switch fails to make contact it causes the steps to malfunction. The malfunction can express itself in several ways, ie, steps fail to retract when ignition is "on", steps may operate while going down the road, ect.
Check the photo section for my fix to this problem. Photo is titled "Inspire door switch fix". May not be solution to your problem, but worth a look. Keep us posted on what you find.

When you get the step ou with the door opened, reach inside and turn the step switch to OFF

Really no big deal but it helped us. Senility caused us to forget what the positions for the step switches meant so my bride, using her label maker made two labels - park and travel and put them above and below the switch. helped us.
