Canadian Maritime Ferries & Allure 2003 370 ISL

A friend with an Allure 2003 370 ISL is considering a Canadian Maritime trip with us in 2007. They had bad experiences with the ferries out of Skagway Alaska which tore out their oil pan. They now have a skid plate, but are concerned with the many ferry crossings described in the "Eastern Canada by RV" video by Pro Video Productions (husband and wife were at the Eugene 2005 class reunion). They feel that the ferry could have distroyed their skid plate if one was installed at that time. (The ferry system paid for their repairs.
The couple was also alert to the tides, but the ferry they were scheduled for was several hours late).

Can anyone offer any advise to them about the ferry crossings to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia?

Also, I might upgrade to a 2006 or 2007 Allure with large engine before the trip. Any experience with clearance of the 2006 Allures.

Unless you stay with the same size coach with the same number of slides you are going to find the new coaches are much heavier than yours. New Allures have more and thicker floor tile, counter tops and wall tile. The cabinetry has been changed to all 3/4" material, where as earlier allures were supplied with 3/4" material on the faces of cabinets and cabinet doors, only. 2006 coaches have taller and therefore heavier chassis. They have that tag axle, which will help prevent you from scraping the oil pan, but add a bunch of weight, have larger holding tanks, which all add weight and a much larger carrying capacity. So don't expect the ISL to really out perform your 350. I do think the Allure is now CC best coach for the money. The 42' has the largest bay storage. One thing I learned this year, don't accept a new coach without seeing the dyno results. If you don't get 80+% of your rated horsepower, you have a problem. In my case it was a bad Charge air cooler. CC has changed tires to the smaller 295 vs 12r and therefore clearance has been reduced about .8 inches

Thank you for the information about the construction of a possible future coach for me. Very interesting.
My friends coach, Allure 2003 40 foot First Avenue with tag axle and low mounted ISL 370 engine, wiped out the oil pan boarding an Alaska ferry. I think the possibility would also exist boarding ferries in the Canadian Maritime. Unfortunately, if it is a serious possibility, he won't go :-( . Will the skid plate installed below the oil pan eliminate the possibilities of oil pan damage when boarding a ferry, or could the skid plate collapse and damage still result?

We bought a 99 Intrigue last May. There was a bright red switch mounted above the step cover switch. When activated, it permits the coach to move with the HWH at maximum height. The original owner had it installed by Beaudry, San Marcos. He did warn me that if you weren?t careful, you could seriously damage the suspension. It did give him clearance to get into his driveway.

Herb, I took the ferry from Nova Scotia to PEI 2 years ago with my 2005 inspire and had no problems. I did not go to Newfoundland.no problem with clearance. I am 13ft. tall with satalite dome.
