LA, MS, AL travel along coast

Yahoo Message Number: 20752
Beach roads south of Mobile & Pensacola are closed due to repairs or lack of repair. Forts & parks are not passable or accessable. We back tracked repeatedly for lack of road closure information this week.
One person said tropical storm Alvin wrecked Pensacola area 1 day before money season. Following hurricanes did more damage. Dauphin Island has much construction on road & off. Beach areas east to Navarre are trashed.
Highway 98 is good east of Navarre.

MS coast highway 90 is still without bridges for Biloxi & Bay Saint Louis. 90 is not fit for travel, only for a few miles of seeing gross damage. Tires beware. I10 is OK except for construction debris on road.

New Orleans is still a wreck. Shrimp boats still on roads. Cars, trucks, vans, houses & commercial buildings still where the storms left them. Some bridges are gone. Working stoplights are rare. Police are rare. We were comfortable traveling in a large 4WD pickup truck with 2 cell phones & pistol, but we only intended to stop @ zoo & open area of French Quarter where we could watch truck. Not a city for an obvious slow half million dollar RV to be in. Not a place to be without a spare you can change without help. Much debris on roads less on interstates.
Many large office buildings still missing windows & parts of exterior.
We did not travel west of NO since November.

Florida shows little damage on short route from Navarre to Tampa.

Thanks for the update. I will be heading west to Navarre Beach soon.
Do I take it from your comments that going west on 98 from Navarre to Pensacola to get to I-10 is not possible or not recommended?

Also, Does anyone know the current conditions on I-12 and I-10 heading west through MS, LA and into TX? I know most campgrounds have workers and displaced homeowners staying long term, so I might be parking in Wal-Marts getting through there.

Thanks,
Rosemary

*98 might be good to Pensacola. 399 is not good.

*Also, Does anyone know the current conditions on I-12 and I-10 heading west through MS, LA and into TX? I know most campgrounds have workers and displaced homeowners staying long term, so I might be parking in Wal-Marts getting through there.
*Interstates OK except for debris blown off trucks from construction & destruction sites. Some Walmarts open short hours for lack of staff. January? Walmarts have much in parking lots. Very crowded. RVs for sale, RVs in use, storage containers, work crews, construction equipment. Prefer church lots. Be ready to defend self & coach as needed. ***Call ahead for camp conditions. Call Federal parks or expect closed. Some parks near Gulfport had open sites in December. ** *Flying J offers minimal services. Take propane with. Buy fuel on truck pumps to quick fill rather than long wait on RV pumps.*
