Question about short term storage

Yahoo Message Number: 21119
We are in WA and will be leaving the coach here for a month and would appreciate suggestions from those nwho have done this before. We are experiencing a cold spell right now and it has been in the teens and low twenties. We have always kept the coach at home in AZ on a 50 amp hookup plugged in and all systems operative. We do not have a power source here in WA, and I am wondering if I should use the coach disconnect so the batteries won't run completely down.I have thought about setting the generator on auto start and let it come on whenever the batteries need to be brought up to 12.6v, but we may not get back for 5 or 6 weeks and that may be a lot of wear and tear and fuel for no reason. Also a concern is that the gen start may malfunction and it would be wasted effort.

Any advice from past experiences will be welcome.

I don't know where you are in WA, but several campgrounds there might keep your coach on a "storage" reduced rate situation and you can keep it on a site plugged in to at least 30 amps. I know the Kent/Seattle KOA will do that.

If you have no alternative, I would use the generator backup and take your chances with it. "Wear and tear" on the generator should not be so bad. They can take it. Just make sure you disconnect everything you don't need and make sure your generator is set to run long enough to recharge the batteries. Make sure your battery water levels are good. And make sure your generator starts okay. If you have not run it on a load at least once a month, you could have a problem with it starting.

Good luck!
