Panasonic Color Back Up Camera - Monitor

Yahoo Message Number: 21424
I have a 2001 Magna with a Panasonic Color Back up Camera where I no longer see anything on the monitor. I can still see the CD info on the monitor and it plays music.

Someone said I need to reset something. Can anyone help with this model?

You can reset it with your remote. This is always necessary if your batteries have been disconnected. The menu key has to be depressed for a few seconds before the "self-explanatory" instructions come up. It will show if the camera is off. If it's on, you must have a camera problem.
One other thing---you have to program for the camera to come on automatically when the tranny is in reverse. I purposely put quotation marks around self-explanatory because I always seem to have to go through alot of trial and error to get mine working.

Good luck,

We have a 02 Magna.

This problem happend to us about a year ago.

I actually dug into the back of the closet and got to the camera.
Before I did any damage to the rig or camera, my wife said why don't I try resetting the master switch. I reluctantly put down my tools towled off my sweat stomped to the front turned off the master switch, waited a minute turned it back on, turned on the camera and wahala the thing worked. I needed to enter the pass code with my remote, I just gussed 0000 and we had a picture! You also need to reset the, LP gas protector, and clock ETC, Hope This helps.

John,

I've had same symptom with my VA707 system. I have always been able to restore operation by unplugging the camera cable in rear closet.
Reconnect plug and everything works again.

Good luck.

Rich,

When you say 'turn off the master switch', can you describe which switch you are referring to. The coach interior switch that shuts down all interior 12V systems? Or what?

thanks,

There are other problems with this unit than just resetting the master switch.

There are at least 2 CC service bulletins on the Panasonic back up camera. We have had ours repaired 5 times so far and still no good. From day 1 the camera was intermittent, the picture would come and go. The CC techs at Beaudry did both SB's and it went about 40 miles down the road before going blank. The silver control box was replaced twice and actually got about 200 miles down the road before going blank. I believe that the wiring from the camera (in the rear closet) needs to be replaced all the way to the front of the coach. CC still has a note on my account to fix it under warranty so maybe some day.

Dick:

My back-up camera also has been fixed multiple times at two different CC dealerships, including replacement; all at no avail. I then asked CC for a solution and they gave me two: First, the in-line fuse holder, standard on my coach, was a problem; it produced a weak connection and needed to be replaced. They sent me a replacement. Secondly, an RCA jack male/female connection coming from the silver box behind the radio had the tendency to come apart, even though the wires on both sides were not under tension. I removed the cover over the dash, dug through a few wires, found the RCA connection, squeezed it together and saw the back-up camera come to life. When I slowly manipulated the jack while watching the back-up camera monitor I was able to reproduce all of the strange images I had grown accustomed to over many miles. Oddly, the advice from CC solved the problem that frustrated both Lazydays and Crossroads RV. I wonder if they ever called?????

Dave,

First real solution that I have heard in many frustrating service calls. It makes sense and we will give it a try.

Gracias,

Dick,

Is your dash display unit also Panasonic or is the dash unit a Pioneer. I have an 05 intrigue and I am trying to figure out if the SB applies to my coach as well.

I have had it repaired 3 times. I have a pioneer dash unit. I have no idea what kind of camera.

Kevin,

Ooops, mine is also a Pioneer. When Carrier and Sons in Eugene worked on it last time (backup camera service #4) they replaced the little silver control box and it appeared to make it work. Problem was the box was used and they wanted to keep it. I had a new one shipped out and a shop in Yuma (backup camera service #5) installed it but no go. The tech support guys at CC are pretty confused and sent me a Mito box replacement, only my unit does not have a Mito box, which we discovered after tearing apart the dash and the overhead cabinets. It is a nasty ongoing problem.

Our coach is a Pioneer Back up camera. We took the yellow connection amd secure it so it is a tight connection and so it would not touch anything metal. We found that going over bumpy road the plug would move and touch other metal and this would short out the camera. I did this about a year ago and have not had any problems since.
