C9 engine hesitation

Yahoo Message Number: 21667
Hi All,

We are having a problem with our engine that Peterson in Eugene & the Cat factory cannot seem to find an answer for. We have an '05 Inspire & almost every time we start out in the morning we have to let it warm up at least 10-15 minutes otherwise we go about 50 yards & cannot go...you can push on the throttle but it sounds very rough and will only crawl, then after about 30-60 seconds it starts to idle smooth and we can go and not have another problem all day. It doesn't matter what the outside temp is, it has happened in warm & cold weather. It doesn't happen all the time, except now we usually just let her warm up so we don't have the problem. We have had Peterson in Eugene hook up a computer but it doesn't show any problems. They have called the Cat factory but they don't have a clue either.

If anyone else has had this problem we would sure like to know if their is a fix for it. We would even welcome phone calls.

Have you had the new flash update put in? I would think that Cat would have tried that as it is suppose to help with this situation as well as low speed power after warm up and black smoke from the exhaust. We just had ours done and will be picking it up this week.
They said it is running much better but soon I will find out.....

Kary,

Yes, I think we had the update done last October at Peterson, unless this is a brand new update. Do you know a number for the update or when it was available?

Larry & Linda,

You should not say you have a hesitation. The c9 does have a hesitation issue, which will get worked out with recent reflashes.
Your problem is not a hesitation, its a complete REFUSAL! The good news for you is that your not alone. If you were alone your problem would probably never get fixed. Also, Country Coach may play dumb on this issue, but they know of the problem, they just don't have a fix. Cat also knows of the problem, because c9 owners call the cat rv hotline at 1-877-777-3126, however Cat plays dumb also because they don't have a fix.
Your problem is real, my coach has the same exact problem, and I have talked to others with the same exact problem.
The latest cat c9 reflash came out last month (# 289-1223). I have no idea if this will help our problem, but the reflash will take care of some engine codes that are common.

Best of luck,
Jim Hosick

C9 engine hesitation

Last month Cat released two updates for C9. Update takes a half hour & fixes multiple problems.
I would get latest update before trying to find cure for strange problem that only occurs after cold start.
Cat also had a mechanical fix for hesitation last year. Fix required replacement of valve in fuel injection pump or whole pump. Maybe your cat was a little slow to show a need for that repair.
Second update last month was for engine and also to cure Allison shifting problems caused by Cat. That last update is hearsay so far; when installed I hope it will be cure for Allison problems in our Inspire.
