San Diego Summer Camping

Someone else asked this of us awhile back and I didn't have a good answer. The problem with California and big CA cities in general is that land is so ridiculously high priced, there are few choices and those limited choices are expensive and frequently oversubscribed.
Not knowing what you're looking for, but assuming that by using the term "camp" you might mean less than princely sums having to be spent each night, you might check out http://www.co.san-diego.ca.us/parks/ which will show you what's available in the county park system at any given time. You can reserve individual sites online fairly painlessly.

If you decide on one, contact us off-list and we might have recommendations on which particular sites in the park would actually accommodate a 40' coach gracefully. We try to check local places out on foot first to see if we can fit in a site and whether it's level enough to use without stroking out your jacks. I'd publish our findings online but it's hard enough to get good spots as it is without letting the secrets out to the entire world. But CC owners are special ;-)

PS - We just spent an incredible couple nights at the Motorcoach Country Club (Outdoor Resorts) in Indio. On their site they have a 5 night free coupon good for another month still. Even though it's normally $85/night, we'll probably go back regularly because this place is absolutely spectacular.

We appreciate, the San Diego County Camping Guide as the daughter lives in Alpine. We enjoy "free" dry camping several times a year at the Indian Casino in Vejias near Alpine. While waiting for a "free" cup of morning coffee, near a poker game, I lost $55. I was one card away from a Royal Flush.
I next morning I only lost $35 waitng for my "free" coffee. Camping is done by following the security guards to the truck/bus parking. with shuttle service every twenty minute to the casino.
3 - 4 days camping is allowed, which is the limit of our holding tanks.
