A Happy Ending or Why you should have a car brake

Two weekends ago, I was returning home on I287 in NJ when someone in a pickup waved a warning that I had a problem and should pull over.
I checked my monitor and the car seemed to be pulling fine but he looked honest and very concerned. I eased over to the shoulder and put my flashers on before I got out. When I got out, what a surprise to find my Cherokee nestled against the rear bumper of my coach. I dreaded walking over to the car because I was sure that it probably was nestled in the bumper of the coach but when I got there, there wasn't a scratch on the coach.

Somehow, one of the arms on my Alladin had disconnected from the Cherokee and dropped to the ground. (I have no idea why, I am careful to the nth degree when hooking up) The safety cables kept the car running straight and my Brakemaster 9000 (which is activated by the motor home air brakes) eased the car to a stop proportionately to the motorhome. If I had a pendulum type brake or no brake, the car would have driven into the coach and caused a lot of damage.

Alladin was great, I shipped the tow assembly back to them and they repaired all the damage and shipped it right back. I can only assume that a pin or a locking pin failed allowing the knuckle to slip off after about two hundred fifty miles. Some very minor damage to the front bumper of the car from the bar hitting the bumper. We were really happy campers when we saw there was no damage to speak of.
