Cleaning Windshield Curtains?

Yahoo Message Number: 50542
I have these white fabric privacy curtains behind the windshield on my 2002 Magna. They have a few yellowe water stains on them. Has anyone cleaned these? I called a dry cleaners. I had a 10 minute explanation that only "wet cleaning" might get these stains out, and then, if the material is cotton, there was a major risk of shrinkage. I am tempted to put them in my washing machine on delicate or my sink and put them back damp. If anyone dealt with this and can share the solution/experience it would be appreciated.

Aftre pre-treating with spot stain remover, my wife washed ours in the washing machine (cold water, delicate setting) per dry cleaner's recommendation and they came out like new after she ironed them. According to the dry cleaners, the only way to get water stains out is with water. It worked great for us.

Rich,

I had the same problem and had them dry cleansed which was a waste of time and money; the stains were still there (exactly the same). I then tried spraying the stains with Fabreeze (read that in some magazine) which helped some, I then tried bleach which also helped but the stains were not totally removed. They now look good from a distance but the stains are still there.
The next fix are new curtains which cost about $100.00 for the set(the dry cleaner charged me $50.00 with little success).

When I had my 2003 Allure, the curtains were stained from a water leak. I was going to replace them, but before I did, I tossed them in the washer.
They came out great!!!!!!!! Smoothed them out, pressed the pleats a little with my fingers, and hung them back up slightly damp. It is worth a try if you are going to replace them anyway.

when we bought our 2000 Magna the curtains were stained. A friend of ours who owned another Magna had their curtains dry-cleaned but wasn't happy with the result at all. So I didn't even go that route and ordered a new set. There is a lady in Junction City who sews curtains. All she needed was the Coach number and some measurements. The curtains came in the mail and we paid $430. Her name is Mille's Drapes 541-689-0066. I hope she is still in business. I am very happy with the drapes.

Thank you all for your suggestions! Looks like I either go to Stan's dry cleaner or try Jerry's washing machine approach (perhaps that is what Stan's dry cleaner did anyway).

I have dealt with your curtain problem many times.I was a drycleaner for ten years. When the curtain sits in the sun the thread starts breaking apart. There is a high risk of the curtain falling apart in the washing machine, or dryer. Also if you use too high heat they may shrink.
I suggest you hand wash them in cold water useing a minimal amount of mild soap. Don't scrub or wring or twist as they will loose their shape. To dry put them in the dryer on spin without heat to get as much miosture out as possible. Lay them flat on a towel in the shape you want them until dry.

If that doesn't work throw some cash at it.

Greetings

We had the same problem with watermarks, and CC told us that once a water spot is there its almost impossible to remove them. So we threw some cash at it and had new curtains made from the original fabric by the vendor that CC used before they went to roll up shades. The vendor lives in Junction City and its Millie's Draperies 541 689-0066,Great job and the quality is surpurb.

We used the spray can version of Scotchguard. All you do is spray the stains and let dry. You have to completely soak the fabric where the stain is and let it dry.

We goofed, left drivers window open - water spots. Once they are their that is it, no getting out. Even spent the money an had profeesional cleaned. Didn't help at all. An also Fulltiming takes it toll on things.

So we also had Millie do our drapes last summer. Best money ever spent, she is a perfectionist!
