$35 to look for a CC part?

Yahoo Message Number: 51400
I just emailed Specialty Coach Parts to see if they could provide me with a circuit board for a 14+ year old coach.

The response was that they would search if paid $35 for the search.
Now, I know I do not have many other options for board replacement, but paying money for the parts specialist to tell me if they can help or not and at what price for the part seems a bit of a weird business model.
Has anyone had success with getting satisfaction from this "search firm"?

Dean,

I would contact John Davis

jd@... 541-306-6473

I do not work for John, never met him but, over the phone. Based on my experience with him, I am not afraid to recommend him to anyone. This guy follows thru, stays in contact with all the support you could ask for.

It is the fresh water "autofill" circuit board located just above the 12 V digital clock behind the right overhead dash panel on my rig.
I think a relay on the board is toast but figured at this age, replacing this "nice to have" circuit board might make sense.

Don't know what kind of board you are looking for, but try dinosaurelectronics.com RUSS WARREN '95 Intrigue 10070

Had the same issue, obviously you have the same set up or similar set up. Couldn't find a replacement, let me know if you do?

Thanks

Got the beast ready to roll, heading for Gulf Shores, Friday morning.

Hi Dean,

Back in our working life we had a company that made a product that used many printed circuit boards. There are companies and individuals in the US that will repair old boards. Use the search terms "circuit board repair" or if you are near a college or trade school that has electrical engineering you could contact them to see if any of the students "moonlight". I would imagine you could get your board repaired for less than the $35 to search for the part.

Marta, great recommendation. I will explore that solution here in Sacramento and the Bay area. Gotta be one somewhere.

My symptom:

Fresh Water fill solenoid will not activate because no voltage at solenoid.
Perhaps, an incidental symptom is the computer lady saying the black and grey water tanks are approaching full when the tank level indicator shows accurately that they are empty.
Anyway, I think the NEC relay on the board may be the culprit. So, I am trying to source the relay or someone to test/repair the board.

Did you have similar errors with your board?

Steve,

Do you have any info from the board? ...something that was printed on it that might help identify a manufacturer?

Dean,

Want to try www.digikey.com . They are a supplier of electrical and electronic components. I have used them in the past for hard to get items.

Mike;

On the road, haven't done my emails since last week. Can you hold for a week?> Up to my eyeballs in b.s. My Kubota, gentech?? starts from the switch on the unit but not from inside? I think there was a post in the past, but don't remember the thread, had a new battery installed in Tennessee.
Also, Splendide won't drain>>>>>>>>> Will be in Gulf Shores next week, should have time to pull the cover and chekc then.

Steve, I recently had the same problem with my remote start.

1. Check continuity on your wires from remote switch to generator. My red wire was broken near the generator. Repaired and was good.

2. Much later, I had a repeat problem. I ended up wiggling the two blue wires attached to the on genset start button. That would allow the remote to work, but not the start button. More wiggling got both to work. Good so far for this two week trip......but probably not a permanent fix.

Steve,

There are four connection points to check for the remote start failure on the PowerTech.

1. Back of the Start switch on the PowerTech unit for loose slip-on connector. You have to open it up to check this.
.
2. Follow the blue wire to the side of the case for the PowerTech unit and you will see a plastic white connector that goes through the wall of the case. Possible loose/corroded connectors here. Again, you have to open up the case to get at the inside portion to check the crimps on the inside portion of the connector.

3. Follow the wires outside the PowerTech unit and in about 1 - 2 feet you will see another connector strapped/wrapped into the harness. Mine gave up the ghost some time ago with brittle plastic and the connectors were just falling apart. Replaced all of them with a 4-wire trailer connector type plug.

4. Connections on the back of the remote switches in the panel above the driver. The start switch here does the same thing the one on the PowerTech unit does - it grounds the start lead to pick the same relay.

If you don't have one, I made up a schematic of the whole shebang and can send it to you.
I'll bet on # 2 or 3 as the most likely because of the age of our units.
