Foretravel bulkhead separation

Yeah, I know it's a CC forum, but I need a reality check.
I've been looking at used CCs and Foretravels as I think both are quality RVs.
However, I was leaning towards Foretravels until I found out about a Foretravel chassis issue called "bulkhead separation".
What is "bulkhead separation"? As I understand it, 1988 to 2005 Foretravel chassis used angle brackets bolted to the chassis to support the motorhome. Over time these brackets can rust, break the bolts, and cause one or more sides of the motorhome to sag.
The fix (about $1000) involves first removing the rust from the brackets and then replacing the bolts.
Judging from the responses I've seen on the Yahoo Foretravel forum, owners downplay the issue.

Two questions:

(1) Does this bulkhead separation sound like a big deal? (2) Do CCs have anything like this?

I have a friend that has a 1997/8 Foretravel and had the problem, but fixed the problem himself and it did not cost anywhere near $1,000. At least with Foretravel there is a company that is still in business.
