Motorhome storage ideas

Yahoo Message Number: 4299
When you're not driving where do you keep your Country Coach? Power/ no-power; inside/outside; heat/no heat; also have any owners built garages to store their coaches and if so what door height works the best? To compensate for mirrors how much longer should the length and width be over the std. coach dimentions? Is it wise to have the slides in or out with indoor storage and how about the awning? Bags deflated or what...........anything other pointers?

Thanks,

After storing our first motorhome (a Discovery) outside in the heat and humidity of South Louisiana, we decided to build a climate controlled garage for the Magna. The slab is flat and 50 ft. in length, and the coach area has a 15 ft. ceiling. This is a multipurpose garage so we wanted space behind and along side the coach. We have plenty of room to open the slide if desired. The door is 12 ft. wide and has 13 ft. of clearance topside. By angleing the antennas, only the CB antenna drags a little when we back in. The door can be customized to your specs by Overhead Door or the like.

The coach is always plugging in to 50 amp and we used a two faucet water setup as used for a clothes washer, except both faucets are cold. This allows hookup for black tank wash while we have a connection for fresh water. A sewer dump is a must, and should have a rise or p-trap in the pipe to keep sewer odors out of the garage.
With a little "jury-rigging" I can drain the fresh water tank into the dump, and refill while I'm doing other chores around the house.

We normally defate the air bags and leave the air system off unless we open the slide. Then the coach leveling should be engaged.

It is rarely necessary to utilize the AC or Heat since the building has 6 in. stud walls and is well insulated. It is only used on the hottest or coldest (it's never that cold here) days.
Hope this helps a little.

Steve,

The setup that Tom B. has seems perfect, he has covered all the bases.

I keep our coach inside a heated bldg. in Holland, Mich. when I am in Mich.

It has a 10' by 14' high door, I would go for 12' wide if poss.
I park it leveled, with slides out, plugged into 50 amps, with water.
Sewer hookup was not available, and would have been great.
When we are at our home in Scottsdale, (leaving today) I have an outside covered space reserved, they have a dump sta and water avail to flush tanks. Out there, exposure to the sun is the enemy, no worry about freezing.
