Slide loose piece on room structure
Yahoo Message Number: 63826
We had our first problem with a slide on our coach. Last night of our first big shake down cruise, the big front slide stopped going out. This is a non galley slide unit, and goes out a bit further then the galley slide rigs. Could not get the unit to go out, or in.
Turned off the master switch, went out and did an outside inspection. Found the front lower edge of the slide (below the small front facing slides window, on our unit), had a right angle piece of metal that had seperated from the slide. This right angle runs the full lowere front (one on the rear too) edge of the room slide out. Looks like the bottom section of the right 90 degree angle, is used to run in/out the the slideout, carrying the room (speculation on my part, but I could see wear patterns on this strip, from I suspect a wheel of some kind).
We Gorilla Taped the piece back up tight to the bottom of the slide, using the painted side of the room to attach the right anble stip up tight against. (Went inside, and restarted the full cycle. First closed the slide all the way. Then openned it all the way for the night. In the AM, it closed again all of the way. Seemed to run properly. As 'full disclosure', I do think I caused the problem that made the room self protect shut down during openning. I had the engine running, but due to the heat (Carson City was 98) we had the generator going with both roof AC's running. I did not open the driver window during the open slide attempt. I thought the AC would have been putting in a postive air pressure, but realized I was wrong, that it was recirculating the air within the rig).
OK - So, anyone else ever have the right angle strip on a slide 'pop loose'. Hos did you repair it, as I doubt Gorilla Tape is the long term solution:)! I'll call Oregon Coach for input too, but wanted to know if any of you have been down this trial before.
I could try to clean it up and just gle it on again (looks like some kind of bondo/sealer was used (well, at least on this strip - who knows, may have been a repaired slide that I don't know about).
I did a quick look at the structure while extended. Was also thinking I might use a good glue, and drill the a hole thru the angle strip, and attach the side pieces with flush rivits or flat head screws?
Thanks in advance for any input.I'll let you know what I find from talking with Oregon Coach Works.
