Replacing drawer glides on an older Allure

Yahoo Message Number: 64950
We have a '98 Allure and although the cabinets are pretty sturdy, the drawer hardware is pretty cheap, basic glides with those frequently breaking plastic mounts in the rear. I'd like to replace them with better stuff but before I got around to it, CC went under so I couldn't order the stuff from them.
I don't really know how to measure for these or where to go buy quality stuff that isn't full of plastic. I have a feeling more than a few folks with older coaches have replaced these, how to go about it?

Thanks

Go to Home Depot , etc with the length of the drawer and they will set you up.

I prefer accuride slides. I just installed a few sets of Accuride 4034 over-extension 150lb slides in some of our kitchen drawers and some Accuride 3132SC (Self Closing) slides...They are much better than the hardware used by Country Coach.
However, the drawer construction used by Country Coach is a problem. They used a very cheap style drawer bottom which was somewhat held in place by the original equipment drawer guides. So, I also bought some angle steel from a local hardware store and screwed them into the sides and bottom to beef up the original style drawer bottoms.
Total installation was prety trivial... probably took me 30 minutes per drawer (because I usually am pretty meticulous about measurements etc.) A professional cabinet shop could probably do the job in half that time.
Get your Accuride slides from the internet. Order lengths that match the full length of your drawer boxes. You can also buy Accuride or similar ball-bearing slides at Woodworker's Supply if you happen to have a store nearby and want to see them in person before ordering over the internet.

Hi Dan - As mentioned above, CC would use cheap hardware whenever they thought they could get away with it. I have found that Lowes has a better selection of drawer hardware than Home Depot. I replaced only the rear glide mounts about 4 years ago and the new ones seem to be just fine. The new rear mounts seem to be made of a softer plastic (maybe nylon) and they do not crack and they seem to self-adjust more smoothly than the originals. Don't forget to remove all of the drawers while working on one to allow easier access. Good luck.

I went to both Lowes and HD and neither really have what is needed here. Their ball bearing glides do not have the required stop feature to keep the drawers in when you're driving. And the observation that the drawer glides here help support the rather flimsy bottoms is true as well, you need a glide that fits up against the bottom and side like the stock ones.
Most importantly, neither of these places have the floating back brackets into which the fixed end of the glide inserts. These cabinets are really poorly made in that there is no way to support drawer glides on the sides.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Dan

I recently had to replace a slide in a bedroom drawer. The currently available replacement slides were the Accuride 3832HDSC series. These are the Heavy Duty Self Closing series. Note this is NOT the simpler 3832SC self-closing series. I couldn't find them easily (not at HD, Lowes, or even Woodcraft) nor could I find them for sale on the internet! (Well, I could find them available in the UK, but that didn't seem like a good idea) I finally had to find a distributor who then could recommend a retailer for me to order from.
The slides work great for me - all the drawers in the coach use this same slide. They won't open on turns or stops, yet the drawer can easily be pulled open.
They are described here: www.accuride.com/Woodworking/Product/Details.asp?ProductID=44

I just replaced some of my drawer glides. The new ones work fine even thought they were very inexpensive. The holes did not line up exactly so I used different holes for the new glides.
See this web page, go to the bottom.

I had no problem with the supplier Berryland Campers.
I also bought some from www.wwhardware, cost five times as much and may be hard to fit. Part #KV8400 BRV22 The 22 at the end is the length. I did not use them because the width was a shade high and I was short of time for this repair. These are very high quality glides made in the USA.

Hope this helps.

Are you referring to the BRD slides towards the bottom of the page? Are they heavier than the stock ones?
If so, did you also order the back mounts and did they fit properly on these slides?

Thanks!
