Changing from partial carpet to full tile

Has anyone had experience with removing existing carpet & tile flooring to replace with full tile? (Not including bedroom). Any special considerations to be aware of or special materials to use? Thanks in advance for any advice.

You will increase your weight by nearly a 1000 pounds. This has consequences in handling, fuel consumption and breakage when things fall on it. It is cold on your bare feet which means you will probably end up with some throw rugs. But, it looks nice. Good Luck. John 2002 Allure

If I was going to do some flooring work, I would investigate heated floors. I have no idea if a heated floor has tubes of warm water running through it from the hydronic heater, or if they use electricity.

Jack,

Most of the CC heated floors were an electric mat under the tile (Gold Heat). Some of the high end coaches did/do use tubes under the floor but I have only read about it I can't remember which ones but I would think that retrofitting that into a CC would be an interesting challenge.

BTW our coach came with Gold Heat and we love it.

Oregon Motor Coach told us that the heating unit under the tile is the same stuff they use in the residential housing market. It is like your heating blanket (you do have one don't you???)
Regards CC opening. Does this mean open competition between Ron Lee and Bob Lee's son in law at Oregon Motor Coach for prior CC employees. It will be interesting to see where the new CC employees come from.

I have an '06 Allure. It had carpet behind the driver seat back to the end of the dining area. The passenger side has tile w/heated floor. I replaced the carpet w/tile and an additional heat mat. We were able to match the existing tile. It took some time to remove the partial tiles that were along the edge of the carpet as the existing heat mat could have been damaged. But, we love the result. It looks better and no more carpet to get dirty. Dave Rutherford, in Junction City, did the work and did an excellent job.

We replaced all the carpet (except the bedroom and the driver's side slide) and tile in our coach with an engineered floor which looks like tile.
There is a big weight loss advantage in doing this (helps with the non-tag coaches) and the floor is much warmer. We saved enough weight to offset the addition of some additional AGM batteries.
Serviceability over time may be a dis-advantage, we will see how that works out.
Dave Rutherford did ours as well but I heard that he has closed his business now and works with another facility in the Junction City area - maybe Premier??..or??..maybe someone else can confirm this.

Sounds like a slick mod! Do you have area carpets down? My wife likes throw rugs down, with rubber non slick backing, in the kitchen tile area. She said she would also use one or two in the living area if we were to replace the carpet area. I've read that damage can take place if you have rubber backed carpet mat's and use the heating element. Though others say they do it all the time without problems. Looking for CC experience with this. (Hope this question was clear?)
Did you leave the carpet on the slide part? I'm suggesting to my wife that we would be better off leaving the slide part carpet in place, we could dye it if she wants a darker color.

Great info, guys, thank you very much. We take delivery on our Allure late next week and we're excited about making the change from gas to diesel...big change for sure. I prefer tile all the way with throw rugs but we'll see how it goes. Other flooring materials might just be the ticket.

Has anybody who has replaced the living room carpet thought of or used cork flooring? It's not as heavy as tile, comes in rectangles maybe 10' by 16' or 12' by 16'.

Since cork is a soft wood, I would think that some of the rollers may make indentions when they travel.

Mary, I have installed a lot of cork. The reason I stated what I said was in previous experience. Since all coaches with slides react differently, an experiment would be worth the time to check out- if not, why not, with this material.
