Cummins Exhaust Crack

Have an appointment with Cummins to check fan speed and noticed a crack in the exhaust manifold. Engine is 370 ISL 2001 with 56K miles. Called CSP too and they want the Cummins to diagnose then they will say what coverage will include. Can anyone advise from past experience?
Cummins called back to say there is a recall on my air pump and hydraulic pump, go figure. Sounds like we will be off the road for a while.

What does it cost?

Paul, the Exhaust Manifold parts and labor will be about $500.00. The manifold is a two piece part, make sure you replace both pieces even though only one has the crack. Also use new bolts and gaskets.

I had to replace mine at approx. 85,000 miles.

Major Bummer! Had our manifold relpaced in Yuma on our 8.3 Cummins for 850.00$ Including tax last week! The biggie is a larger diesel engine installed in a small engine house and minimal cooling and casting failure like mine! Working for Cat on a C-7 would be 1200$ Having a larger diesel does not help Thanks for sharing! I feel your Pain! Ken in Yuma 99 Allure 30356.

I had both segments of exhaust manifold replaced a couple years ago because of a hairline crack pointed out to me by a mechanic friend who works for the state transit authority with long experience with multiple bus type heavy engine applications. He said such cracks are relatively common for Cummins engines at around 100K miles and recommended both halves of the exhaust manifold be replaced even though the crack was in just one.
The reason he was checking my coach out was because of a damaged oil pan. Now, that's a real CC design flaw! Way too little clearance and no protection down there. I've replaced two even though I try to be very careful. Might be an argument for having a coach with a tag axle.

Jim, I have an 03 Allure 1st Ave. 40' with Tag and Fiberglass Oil Pan. My engine sits very low as your does, I lost one (1) oil pan and fixed the problem through a great friend who is a great mechanic.
I purchased large heavy duty "Skid Wheels" from Camping World and bolted them to the bottom of the rear engine mounting bracket. Now the Wheels hit before the Oil Pan and raise the chassis upwards.
After 104,000 miles of travel I know the angles of approach to stay away from.

We had the Cracked Exhaust Manifold replaced on our ISC 350 Cummins at Cummins NW, Coburg last July (2010) with over 100K on the Engine..

I agree with Mike that a tag axle will not help at least not on my Allure. I am on my second fiberglass oil pan. It too has many scratches, although I drive very conservatively.

Just got the news from Cummins. No charge for new air compressor. CSP paid $1000 on the exhaust manafold and leaking fuel transfer pump. Not bad. Total bill is $1654. Our first time of having any engine work done and just glad we did it at home.

At a CCI rally in Aug of 07 the chief mech eng highly recommended keeping the tag axle down to protect the oil pan. BOB 06 intrigue 12047
