06 Intrigue steps going in and out at will

Yahoo Message Number: 69850
We have an 06 Intrigue and on Wednesday as we left for the weekend, Michael started the coach and the steps came in then went back out again. He was able to retract with the switch. But this morning when we leaving the steps didn't come in when the coach was started. We checked the fuses, those seem fine. We started it a couple of more times, and the steps wouold go in, then come right back out again. We finally got them to stay in, for the trip home.

Has anyone exprerience something like this? Any suggestions? I don't remember our coach number, sorry.

The door switch is not closing. Is the door latching all the way closed? Maybe the switch is going south.

Mike:

That is a common problem. On my 06 Allure I was told switch was bad, switch was out of adjustment, control module etc. The problem was a bad ground. The wiring the goes through the door to the connection bus had a broken ground wire. These wires are small like telephone wires and are subject to breakage. Mine steps would go in and out while traveling do to movement of the broken wire. I ran a new ground 4+ years ago and still good. www.kwikee.com may still have customer service for more advise.

Had a similar problem but was very intermittent. Replacing the wiring harness & switch didn't fix the problem. Ran another ground to the motor itself and disconnected the ignition line to the steps and it would still happen. Finally had a tech install a relay and switch so that we could turn off all power while underway. So far so good.

Sometimes it's the simple things that cause the most problems.
