Michelin XZA3 being discontinued ???

Yahoo Message Number: 71313
Greetings All, ...........

I was about to pull the trigger on a set of 6 XZA3 275/80 R22.5 LRHs' and was informed by the dealer that the tire was being discontinued.
The dealer stated that Michelin would have a replacement for the XZA3 in the next couple of weeks, but did not have any info about the replacement.
Does anyone have any info on this ? Has anyone heard of any problems that would prompt Michelin to drop XZA3s' after such a short production life.

I'm a bit concerned about a new tire without a performance history, but I'm also concerned about the why of dropping the XZA3.

Thoughts anyone ??

I would not take the word of the dealer. They may be trying to sell you something else. Just my experience. I would suggest that you contact Michelin and you will know for sure.

For whatever it's worth I've been using XZA2 295/80R22.5/16 on my bus. I got two of them last year ($538/ea) and another 4 this year ($730/ea) and the tires seem fine. A discontinued tire may mean nothing more than not enough sales volume to continue offering it. It also may mean rubber chemistry problems which I doubt with Michelin. Dealers and honest tend to be at opposite ends of the spectrum. Best to seek out several sources and compare the ones that are consistent. Good luck.

Thanks Gil & Scott,..........

The XZA3's were to replace out of date XZA2s'. When I started doing the research I was pointed to the XZA3 as the replacement. Good suggestion to call Michelin direct. Will do Tuesday.

Thanks Guys,

Well, I called Michelin U.S. this morning the lady answering the phone, (nice lady), was taken by surprise by my question. To her credit, she made the phone calls and secured an answer for me while I was on hold.
I was told the XZA3 is being replaced by a tire designated as the XZA3-plus, (+)?. She did not have documentation of the changes to the tire, but indicated that the dimensions would be the same. XZA3-plus is to be available in the next couple of weeks.
