gauges/oil pressure/generator

? Here is one I could use so help on from all you great minds. I just went to get my coach out of storage to work on a low turbo boost problem and as I was driving it to my shop about 20 mile away from where it is now I noticed the boost reading on the silverleaf froze on 5.5 lbs of boost so I took my foot off of the throttle and it stayed on 5.5. I was coming up to a stop light and was slowing down at the time and then I noticed my speedometer and all my other gauges where frozen in the same position they must have been in when my boost gauge froze. I stopped at the light and it still showed me a 50 mph. I was afraid to shut the coach off in case it didn't want to restart in the middle of the intersection but I didn't want to be traveling down the road without my gauges on my engine. So I turned off the coach and turned the key on and watched the gauges center and go back to zero. All the gauges did just that except the tach, it went to the middle and then instead of going to zero it went to 3000 (max gauge) and stayed. My water temp gauge also went to zero which it should not have as I knew There was coolant temperature. My silverleaf is even showing my digital temp at "0" which it would shouldn't. Then my generator shut off. I don't know what that was all about but it did but it restarted. The coach restart but it didn't show any oil pressure or water temp. The transmission was showing temp and the alternator was showing voltage on the analog gauges but the silverleaf wasn't showing any vitals from the engine but was showing everything from the transmission.
My first thought was I must have a bad ground somewhere but I would like to take it to my shop to do some troubleshooting. Then I started thinking "Could I be having some sort of ECM problems with the engine." Any Ideas out there???? All help appreciated.

I guess I should have said something about tires or AGM batteries or what insurance i should use to verify that my post was being read as I'm sure I would have got some responders. Boater Al where are you? I was trying to burn up some of that old $1 a gallon diesel out of that thing like you told me to do and see what you got me into.
Anyway if anybody cares I put a oil pressure gauge at the low pressure oil switch to verify I had oil pressure. I started it up and it had 45psi at idle and my analog gauge and silverleaf were both reading zero along with all the audible alarms going off. I went ahead and drove it to the shop and I'll troubleshoot it later. Any help is still welcome! Kevin

Kevin,

Sounds like the Silverleaf and your dash gauges are getting the information from the same source and I assume that is the engine computer. You may be onto something with the thoughts of a bad ground. Could also be a loose or corroded pin connector. Not much help, but I feel your pain.

Thanks for your input. I was considering calling CCC tech support to see if they could help and answer a list of questions I have right now. I gave them a call to see what there rates were. The receptionist put me right through where I got a recorded message which basically said they were proud of the service and if you want to use them leave a message and they would call me back..The rate would be a flat $25 for the first 10 minutes and $8. for every five minutes after that. I hate being such a tight ass but $105 dollars an hour is ridiculous for someone sitting on the capital investment of a phone with access to some records. I've got a machine shop with a few million dollars worth of equipment and I consume expensive cutters and electricity like they were going out of style and I can only get about $60 an hour on the average and I also get to pay a highly skilled machinist to do the job on equipment that costs way more than a phone as well the fact I'm risking a very expensive machine getting tore up. If a programmer so much as puts a decimal point in the wrong place it could cost me tens of thousands of dollars. If they give me the wrong advice what is it going to cost them, nothing but future business.
I responded to someone named Angela a couple of day ago in a post about Ron Lee buying up all the clothes. She was on some soap box about the fact a few people commented on him doing so and were wondering how much the clothes would be now. She went off about how great Ron was and how much he was doing for us. I was left wondering if she was trying to get a raise or a job. But at the end of my reply to her response I said "I'm sure if Ron runs the company better than all his competitors the CCC will thrive. Time will tell and I wish him the best." Well I think CCC pricing on their tech support is TOO HIGH. If Ron Lee wants CCC to due well and support those of us who own a CC he will reasonably price his services and he will get more business. I figure it would take 10 minutes for them to get the info on my coach and hear the problem in detail, that's $25 bucks, thank you, cha' ching. You have to remember troubleshooting over the phone is like calling the doctor, or in this case calling the doctor and waiting for him to call you back, and have him diagnose your condition over the phone, Maybe he will get it right or Not. I just think it's way over priced. I could see $45-50 an hour or a annual fee of $150-$200 bucks being fair but I don't see this pricing as something that's going to take CCC to the top. Just my opinion, so I'll try to figure out this problem without their help.

I couldn't agree with you more, Kevin. My RV experience is limited to 2 Airstreams, a Foretravel and now, our Intrigue. Up until now, whenever I called the factory (or any service center for that matter), I was NEVER charged for advice over the phone.
Charging anything for assistance over the phone is cheesy... charging $105 an hour is an insult no matter how it's spun. Before anyone flames me with

After I wrote this post I thought about having 5 Cincinnati Milacron Machining centers that the price of which are around the price of a new coach. One of them is now 10 years old. This machine has been run 8 to 20 hours a day since I purchased it and almost never breaks down and I do all the maintenance on my equipment. Cincinnati Milacron sold out this product line to Lamb Technicon. I can still call Cincinnati Tech support and they will support it for free and they do a great job at it. Free! Parts are expensive from Cincinnati but they are specific to these machines so for me that's understandable. Their quality and service is what made me purchase their product over the South Korean or other foreign machines I can buy for half the price.
When the foreign competition enters the MH market here in the United States I believe this attitude of "not caring if your skinning the Sheep" will put Companys with it out of business in short order. In my business I figure I can shear a sheep alot of times but once I've skinned it I'm done. Overcharging also allows foreigners to get it's foot in the door. Manufacturing has in a large part gone overseas already and I'm having to find ways to take that work back where I can. It's pretty hard to do when China has as many people as they do who are willing to work for a $1 an hour.
I put my Coach in storage for a month and get it out to work on something thats broken and something else breaks taking it to the shop. I believe the quality of CC MH's is one the best but still is unacceptable in my mind. If my machines broke down as often as my CC does I would have gone out of business a long time ago. Thats probably why they have to charge for Tech support. I've called Cincinnati twice in ten year because it has broke down twice in ten years of eveyday use.

? I found the problem with the low boost. After washing off all the exhaust soot I could see I had half a gasket left between my exhaust manifold and the turbo and have about a 3/16" gap between them. I can't imagine it just came loose so I would guess the studs broke off in the exhaust manifold. My other problems may be related but not sure. I found some wire covers melted and laying down on the frame. Just some food for thought, If your boost is low you best figure out on which side of the turbo it's leaking. I had one wire cover starting to melt on the alternator. If it was getting hot enough to do that 20" away from the leak it was getting hot back there.
