06 CC Intrigue, 40 foot with Cat C 13 Engine

I am new the group and would like suggestions on spare parts and components to carry when traveling. I generally use the coach for driving trips rather than destination trips and I would like the security of carrying spare parts that can keep me going or the ability to perform a fix that will allow the coach to be driven to a service center. In addition to the suggestion, I am looking to source the dash switches, both 2 position, 3 position and rocker, the rear three switch panel in the bedroom for gen., light, and camera, and the small switches for the lights with an indicator light in the switch.
I am also interested in building an inventory on hard to find parts and sources if they are known.

I have amased a pretty extensive collection of parts on my 2004 intrigue for the past year sinced I have owned this rig. I have gathered many of these items just reading about what other's on this site have had problems with while in some place that they could not get parts in a hurry.
With regards to parts that go bad on the coach, I just keep Kevin Waite's cell phone handy and call him and he usually has the part to me in a couple days where ever I am, 541-953-6162. Kevin should be able to find you the switches you need.

With regards to what I have extra parts for...

cabinet latches (one breaks every trip)
lots of blade fuses, different amps (blow a few every trip...some my fault because I tinker)
Extra 200 amp relay, waterpump for drinking water and waterpump for circulating heater vents, fuel filters, water filter, every light bulb on the coach, various sizes of electrical primary wire and all the connectors that go on the ends of wires, engine oil, tranny/hydraulic fluid, radiator fluid, shop towels, long handled squeegee (to clean front windshield with dishwashing soap and water), tube of clear silicone for sealing and adhesive and toilet paper. Oh and a big roll of heavy duty duct tape along with a roll of painters tape. I also have a few cans of rustoleum 'rust reformer' so when I am under the coach on my ' on board creeper' working on something, I can keep up with any potential surfast rust that is starting.
I also have all the equipment aboard to remove a flat tire. I watched the guys at Les Schwab do it enough times that I now carry the big 1 inch dual anvil impact wrench, air hoses, 20 ton air jack, and a really big torque wrench to check the lugs every once in a while (I have not figured out how to carry an extra tire on board though). For now I would just have my toad to run the flat tire back into town to get it repaired. I can remove any tire in less than 5 minutes while on the road. I also have a AAA rv membership when and if I don't feel like changing the tire myself... :) So far I have not had a flat tire and have only rotated my tires in my driveway. I have snow tires and hiway tires for the drive axel.
I have almost every necessary tool on board to do minor and major maintence on the coach. But alas, I do not have everything because while camping at the south rim of the grand canyon last week, a fellow RV who appearantly mistook me for a modern day Macgyver....asked if I had any nails to reattach a piece of wood trim back together on his RV. Nope. Did not see that one coming given that there is little evidence that my intrigue needs nails. I do have lots of various sizes of stainless steel screws though...lots of them.
After reading someone elses post here, I am thinking of carring a spare airbag in case I blow one. They are pretty easy to replace but hard to find when you need them and you do not go anywhere after you blow one. Might require more than one since there are different sizes.
Just put about 3800 miles on the coach the last two weeks and only replaced three fuses, one light bulb, two cabinet latches, one quart of oil and a microwave.
I know this is over kill but this coach is also my hobby when I am away from home.

In addition an Engine belt, Air conditioner compressor belt, two ride height valves. Different grades of sandpaper, Old english walnut furniture polish, a walnut crayon, Min wax finish spray in semi gloss, cabinet door hardware, screen door hardware, white and black Sikaflex, hydro hot filter, fuel-filters, widow cleaners, coach wax, polishes, compounds, polishers , spare head lamp lamps and interior and exterior halogen and Florescent lamps. Water filters, too. In addition I carry 2 50 amp extension cords, 100 ft of 30 amp cord, and 300 ft of 12 awg cords in different lengths. I carry 250' of water hose. Remember the rallies in Eugene where we used combine all our hoses to refill our tanks? Had to do the same thing at OMC. I also carry two 15' sections of sewer hose with a spare. I have my own tire ramps to balance the coach on steeper slopes. I have a 3rd set of keys hidden in the Odessey for the coach and vice versa. If you think these lists are long. Carol has as much of her stuff in the kitchen and lenin closet.

  • Join the CAT RV Club ($15) and get 10% off all CAT parts, plus rallies, etc.
  • Next time you get the oil/filter done have it done at a CAT Service CTR and have them do an SOS oil test and SOS coolant test.
  • Also have them do the value lash on the engine . . . . should be done between 30-40,000 miles
