hurricane bay heater thermostat control

I know the thermostat for the bay heater is in the plumbing bay but the black knob just inside and on the left of the small access panel isn't labeled nor are there any numbers on it. If my assumption that the knob is the thermostat control then should I rotate it clockwise to lower the set temp or counter CW. My rig is a 2003 1st Ave Cascade model with the Hurricane furnace. Any help would be much appreciated as it fires up when the temp is still in the low 40's rather than the 34 or 35 degrees supposedly set by the factory. Consequently it runs almost all the time and is hard on the furnace and fuel supply.

The little black knob isn't labeled but if you get a flashlight you will see there are numbers and I think it goes up to 40 or 50 degrees. It is the heat thermostat for the bay heater. Pat Shirley, 2007 Magna #6805

I took a cup filled with Ice and water with a digitl thermometer, when the temp got down to 36 degrees I placed the copper tube sensor in the water and waited a few minutes and then adjusted the potentiometer so that the Hydro-hot would fire up. What I learned real fast with my previous CC if you placed insulation between the drapes and the front glass of the coach you could cut your heater cycling in half. That's a lot of fuel. Mine did the same thing, would protect me from icing randomly anywhere from 40-65 degrees. Obviously it had failed. I replaced it with a bimetal strip residential unit, that will activate down to 35 degrees - it was meant for garages and such that you do not want to freeze, but that do not require "living" temperatures, just like our water bays.

We also have the same coach. Can you tell me did you find out why this runs constantly. Are you using a lot of antifreeze as well as diesel? Any info would be appreciated.

The problem I had was the thermostat setting. I didn't try the cup and ice but did go to the coach early in the morning when the ambient temp was around 32 and set the thermostat knob to turn the furnace on at that point. Now it only fires up when really needed rather than up into the low 40's. After I set the thermostat I was not certain that it would come on after the ambient temp went up and down again so drove over the next day at 6 AM when the temp was down to 24. It was working just fine and the water pump and inside plumbing were warm. My hurricane antifreeze was not affected. If yours is going down you may have a leak. It might be a good idea to have a tech check it out. Hope this helps.
