NEED A NEW INVERTER PLEASE HELP!!!!

Yahoo Message Number: 81870
A dear friend of mine has a 98 Fleetwood. When they arrived at a church to speak they told them they had a 30amp service that they could plug into. It turned out to be 30amp at 220volts. Well it smoked their inverter. I am looking for someone that may have a used but good inverter that they are looking to sell or maybe donate to their ministry so they can continue their work. You can check out her website at www.lindalanier.org . They had a 2000 watt inverter. You can pm me if you have one or have any questions.

OUCH! Could be this unit, http://www.boatersland.com/stpr20in.html
Will be fortunate if it is only the inverter smoked. Would have concerns about the transfer switch points being welded together. Does the Church have a insurance policy that just might cover such things? Might be worth a call. If close to a Camping World, they clam to match any price. Print out the linked page and take it to them. Transfer switch points/solenoids can be replaced as needed, IF that is the only problem. A shot of 220 could cause many problems.

Good luck on a fix.

The plugs are different for 30 amp / 115 and 30 amp/220. Someone hooked it up wrong. insurance would surely go after someone

Sorry I don't have any to donate at this time, but I maybe able to help.
I can get a re-manufactured unit (1 year warranty) for around $600 or maybe get the hurt unit repaired, that depends on which one it is and what's hurt, most likely the power board..

If interested shoot me an e-mail or phone call.

Steve

Take the cover off your inverter, there is a fuse in the AC side of the inverter that will now if you plug into 220

Hopefully all you need to do is replace the fuse

The last time I was at OMC they had a number of used inverters they were taking out of coaches that were going to residential refrigerators and at the same time up grading to the Magnum pure sine wave 2800's.

This being in an older coach it has the transfer switch built into it so unless I get lucky and find one just like it there is gonna have to be modifications done to the wiring.

The fuse inside had been replaced and still no luck. But I did find a guy that repairs them and as luck would have it he is just 6 miles up the road. He is familiar with the model and is confident he can repair it for a minimal cost

Thanks Jim, I'll pass it on. We did find a guy that repairs them and is only about 6 miles away from me so we are gonna give him a shot first. This being an older model it has the transfer switch built into the inverter / converter. If we update it to a newer model then we are gonna have to rewire it for an external transfer switch. That won't be the problem, the additional cost is. My friends is a spiritual/inspirational/patriotic speaker and singer. She and her husband are on the road alot. Check out her website, its www.lindalanier.org you can listen to some samples of her music. She has had several #1 songs. One of them even pushed Hank Williams Jr out of the #1 spot

Check the fuse. There is a fuse called the "slow blow" fuse. I had a 2000 Fleetwood Discovery and had the inverter go out. Repair shops tried to sell me a new inverter all the way from Joplin, MO to Casper Wyoming. Finally took it to Arlington, WA where they made the inverter. They took replaced the fuse and it worked fine after that. Seems like it was located on the top of the inverter or on a panel if I remember right.
