Engine Brake ISL 425

I know this might seem a stupid question but there seems no difference to braking effect with the switch depressed in either direction (back of coach down, forward coach down) Can some please advise which is which and what one might expect to see in gear change and effect, as the manual does not give instructions.

We had a similar problem. Cummins in Coburg found the jake brake plumbing defective. They had to open the top of the motor to do the fix.

Can you be more specific about the cause and repair Jim. I also have this same issue and would love to know more about the remedy.

Our "Jake" has 2 stages. The engine valves are adjusted from Go to Whoa hydraulically by applying engine oil pressure to the actuators. Those are fed from a manifold (pipe) that is used on various engines with the unused ports closed with small pipe plugs.
In our case several of these plugs were loose; leaking under pressure and one or more had fallen out reducing the pressure to the point stage II didn't happen. They went through the bedroom floor opened the top of the motor and plugged the leaks. The lost plugs were found up top thankfully.

They did a great job and NO MESS in the bedroom!

Cummins Coburg is a 10.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for this explanation, can you state which switch movement selects high and which is low on the rocker. Centre is off and then the rocker goes forward or backward, which is high and low? Also is it the same gear selection coming up in the Alison display? Thanks for continued assistance.

Regards

Michael

Center = Off

Back = Stage I (low, 3 cylinders)

Forward = Stage II (high, 6 cylinders)
Gear selection is dependent on speed and delta. Now & then I'll apply the service brakes and/or manually change down. We run north & south along the west coast and more often than not I can keep the speed where I want it by switching between stages I & II. Also ours is wired to work when on cruse control.
