Engine has diminished power

Yahoo Message Number: 83154
This morning after driving the motorhome a few miles I had to stop on a realativly steep grade at a train crossing. When it was clear a tried to leave, but the motorhome engine revid up but we did not move for several seconds. When we did move I could have walked faster, this has all of a sudden occurred even on flat land. We move but at a snails pace. Later in the day it seemed to be ok, but still a little gutless.

We are 900 miles from home at the Balloon Festival in New Mexico.
Anybody have any ideas as to the problem ? Do you think I can nurse her home ?

One thing that you might want to check is the ducting for your turbo boost. You could have a broken or loose clamp that would allow boost pressure to be lost.
I had that happen on my coach a few hundred miles after a radiator change, because a hose blew off that was not securely installed.
That loss of power is a sick feeling that is made worse at the higher altitudes like where you are now.

Hi Stan,

I agree with Jim, This is the first thing that came to mind and with the recent CAC replacement this would be the first suspect I would look for.

Hi Stan - hope you are having a good trip!
Input from a few pro's here. Let me double check, that the train stopping steep hill - was 'uphill'? If so, yep have your brakes checked. If down hill, look for engine error codes, with a leak of air feeding the turbo a good suspect.

Best of luck,

Hey Stan, Hoping your problem is simple, but I had the same thing happen. Couldn't get above 5mph. Ended up it was the on board computer. Seemed like it took CAT forever to figure it out. We had to get towed to the CAT dealer in Pueblo, CO. Before they would commit to the computer they tried every test in the book. Good luck.

I had a similar situation that I narrowed down to that my exhaust (Pac) brake was not completely returning to full power position. I sprayed the pneumatic cylinder with silicone spray and it got me home. Once home I removed the bedroom floor which gave ready access to the cylinder and could see that there was a buildup of dirt on the ram and pivot points cleaned them up put anti seize on the pivot points and no problem since.

Had the same problem last week. It was the turbocharger piping. One section had blown and had to be replaced. Coach could only move at about 4 MPH with the petal to the metal. Had to be towed in.

Hi Stan - playing catch up on my boards and emails, sorry I did not see your PM until today.
Silverlesf is different between years and models. On mine, I can check for diagnostics and history of error codes at anytime. If it is air flow related on the intake side of your turbo, you would probably would get the same code for many of the mentioned possible causes mentioned air intake wise. Bet the PAC bake rod being stuck would be a different code.

Hope it turns out to be a simple problem! Smitty
