Solutions for the Coaches with the Micro Checking Issue

I just called and spoke with Tony at an body and paint shop in Junction City, OR about what can be done to address the micro checking on my coach.
He explained to me that to properly fix the micro checking he would have to grind down the fiberglass in the affected areas and re-fiberglass the area. That there was a couple of ways to address the re-fiberglassing of these areas. He also stated that if the areas were re-painted with the original dark color scheme, the micro checking could re-appear if surface temperature exceed 120 degrees f.
Bottom line to proper address the issue; re-paint the entire coach in lighter colors, to remove the bad 3M shield on the front end of the coach; to paint the top of the coach with a new process that I don't recall the name of; and to basically make the coach look brand new again. The cost would be approx. $35K and would take up to 6 weeks to perform the work.
I aware of the group discussing this issue in the past and over the many years. What I not aware of is, was there a consensus on the best way to address the issue. I'm interested to hear from other CC owners and how they addressed the micro checking issue on their coaches.

I have spoken a couple of times with the Paint Department in Chino Ca. They will repaint couch with current color scheme for about $25,000 and a new scheme for $35,000 approximately and they will guarantee the paint job. They also grind off the outer layer and not sure what else. If you keep your current paint scheme you do not have to repaint the lower metal doors nor the end caps and that could lower the price. My understanding is that the issue with the fiberglass was lack of cure time and as it continued to cure it gave off gases causing the fracturing. I would think that by now the curing would have occurred and would not be a problem with future paint jobs.

Thank you for the response. In talking with Tony at Inline Body & Paint shop in Junction City, OR; he stated something very similar about the fiberglass. He did mentioned if we re-painted with the original dark color scheme, there was a good chance the micro checking could reappear if surface temperature exceeded 120 degrees F. on the dark areas. Since I live at the Las Vegas Motocoach Resort, that is something I have to worry about.
I'm torn between keeping the coach and and selling it. Does anyone know how much of a hit you take selling your coach with the micro checking issue? Do we have anyone of this board that has sold their coach with the micro checking issue that can answer this question?

I took about a $10,000 hit when I sold my 2002 Monaco in 2006. This problem has been around a long time and I recently talked to a person who just had his 2007 Tiffen redone for the same issue.

A year ago I traded my 2004 Allure with Black Tie paint scheme. That is probably the worst color for this problem. I don't think that Dan understates to hit at $10,000. My coach paint was very bad in the black areas.

We have an '06 Inspire in darker colors and have not had the issue yet. I am assuming it is not "if"? but "when"?
Have most of the issues been on coaches that spend most of their time outside (storage and full timers)?
I guess we haven't see it since ours is only out when traveling for 2-3 weeks at a time.

Hi Lon,

It is more of an issue if you coach sits outside in the hot sun. From what I understand, the micro checking appears if the surface temperatures exceeds 120 degrees f. for an extended time period. It appears the folks that stay in the cooler climates and/or store the coach don't have these problems. I use to own lots a the Motorcoach Resort in Indio, CA and left my coach parked on them. The dark areas of the coach did mico check under the hot deset sun.

It is true that my '04 Allure sat outside in the Alabama sun and the black paint was particularly bad.
