Oil Pressure Gauge Intermittent

Yahoo Message Number: 87357
Thank you for bring up Oil pressure. In my CC (8.3 Cummins) the oil pressure gauge will "spike" to the high side then back to normal. In aviation we call this "intermittent". I have checked the ground and have cleaned the oil pressure sensor. Most of the time the gauge works OK, but then, off we go into this spike high-side then back to normal.
My next move will be to replace the oil pressure sensor and the gauge. Any ideas from the group?

Thank you,

Do you have a Silverleaf in your coach? Our gauges on '99 Magna would intermittently go nuts but the Silverleaf gives a much better reading. If you don't have one it can be added.

Our 1998 Allure with 8.3 Cummins also has a fluctuating oil gauge. Sometimes it pegs for no reason and then will return to normal. I have been able to give the glass a tap and it will go back to normal. I have replaced the ground.

Silverleaf will not work on non ISC Cummins they are mechanical not electronic, 1999 and older.

Randy,

My oil pressure gauge does the same thing as yours and a quick tap to the gauge stops it. The little red idiot light also lights up when this happens.
My water temp gauge will also jump instantly up 40 - 60 degrees and then later click down. Tapping the gauge does not help this one. Are these poor quality gauges?
I am considering replacing both gauges and senders but not sure what to replace them with, any ideas anyone?

I had the same problem with oil and temperature gauges. I replaced them with new ones. On the back of each gauge you can determine the manufacture and the CC serial number of the gauge. I went on the internet with the Co. name ordered the new ones. They cost about $95 and take 5 weeks for them make them to the original CC specs.

Nathon, a friend of mine just went thru this with his '98 Allure and final conclusion was oil dripping on the sensor which caused gauge to read irradic. fr om Jim Veen, '96 Intrigue, 10299, Palm Desert, Ca.
