PTO WET Kit long term experience?

We have an '03 LEXA with the wet kit installed - after a PTO failure a couple years ago. My question is this: How many have put substantial mileage, in excess of 50,000 miles, on the wet kit to determine if this is truly the proper fix?

Excellent question, thank you.

We're dry and service the PTO spline every 5.000 miles. I did this on the advice of and engineer friend with lots of experience with both versions. They had just as much trouble with the wet as with the dry and when the wet systems failed the debris is pumped into the dry side of the transmission.
The fretting that causes the failure is exacerbated by idling, Cummins was worse than Cat in this regard. They found if they raised the idle speed a bit it helped. Our plan is don't slow idle and service every 5,000 miles. 30,000 miles, just had it serviced and looks good.

It looks like from what I have read that the Dry PTO was put into use about 2003? Just concerned if my 2000 Affinity would have a dry PTO, or a different system.

I doubt your 2000 Affinity has a dry PTO or any PTO for that matter. My 2000 Magna does not have a PTO. pete

Went to Premiere RV in Tucson, to have the coach checked out, and asked about the PTO issue, and there is no PTO on my 01 Affinity.

I've been told by a veteran trucker/CC owner that when starting the engine cold you should ALWAYS bump up the idle to 800 RPM (using cruise control) and let the engine warm up. That protects the PTO. I've been told the low sulfur diesel is another contributing factor as to why you need to bump the idle.

We have and use the Aqua Hot preheat system. Our rule is, if you have oil pressure go to high idle, if you have air move it.

Can anyone comment on the older CC? I have a 1997 32' with 54,000 miles (8.3 Cummins) and have not had a problem. Do I have the same wet or dry PTO system? Or is it part of the engine? Thanks,

Randy

Our dry system lasted nearly a little over 100,000 miles. So far we have put about 45,000 on the wet kit with no further problems.
