Silverleaf/ecm accuracy

As a supplementary to my post on fuel senders, I have been monitoring my Silverleaf and the fuel consumption is about 10% out by my best calculations. Now I suspect that the fuel burn is a notional calculation by the ECM rather than an actual fuel flow. I have this on my CATS on the boat, but they are 12 years old with dated electronics, I had been hoping for better from my much newer Cummins ISL. Has anyone got any input on this?
