Hey group need some help. My drivers side slide does not extend all the way. It starts to go out and acts like it is straining and then stop. At one point the breaker will pop and then reset itself. Looking outside it appears the slide is a little crooked in the retracted mode.

Tom, you have to reset the drive gear so both arms that support the slide are extended the same length.
This has happened to me a few times. I don't know how it happens but the spur gear driving the rack on the support arms skips a cog or two.
This is how I fix it:

Problem: Rear end of driver's front slide was ΒΌ" further out than front end Fix: Move rear drive gear one cog on rack Procedure:
1. Remove propane tank door
2. Disengage drive motor clutch
3. Remove drive bolt on square drive tube above propane tank
4. Remove 2 R shaped spring retainer clips on either side of drive gear housing
5. Pry drive gear to right of rack
6. Push slide in by hand until it is even front and back
7. Rap drive gear back onto rack
8. Reinstall R shaped spring clips and drive bolt
9. Reengage drive motor clutch

10. Test slide operation 11. Reinstall door to propane tank

You have a broken shear bolt on one side. Most likely the front one under the front wheel well. Kevin Waite has those and can have it to you in a couple of days. If its the front one as I suspect it will be under a metal cover plate just behind the front wheel well. To get the slide to come in just have someone push on the side that is not working as you hold the button down and it will come in.

Tom, I agree that you have broken a shear bolt. I have replaced them many times. If you need to make a temp repair you can use a grade a bolt of the same size as the shear bolt. If the front part of the does not move and the back does it is a shear bolt.

If you need some help with how to do the repair I am willing to help. It is not hard to do. The hard part if is the font bolt is removing the splash shield and its replacement.

John Busby is probably correct. I have had it happen more than once and if you are lucky you will find the broken pieces in the bay. Measure them and then go anywhere (Home Depot?) and get a replacement shear bolt #8. Otherwise Kevin if the contact.

John, I had Shear Bolt Epidemic, until I went to Kevin. The problem with the system, is the shear bolts are slightly smaller in diameter than the hole, thus they wobble from the very beginning. The wobble will increase over time and thus soon or later they shear. ( Usually Sooner). Kevin machined the hole to the specific size of the bolt. No wobble no shear. It has now been three years, no incidents.
Kevin has his act together, I would recommend him to anybody.

Are you opening a window or door when you bring in the slides? I have never had a bolt shear; however, I carry a couple just in case maybe that is why they don't break

My shear bolt problem was solved when I found the bolts that hold the motor in place were loose. In fact one bolt was missing and probably never installed. This was three years ago. The three bolts left were all very loose which caused the motor and shaft to move. Replaced the missing bolt, tightened the other three, aligned the slide and problem solved. I had had several repair shops work on correction of the problem and none of them found the loose and missing bolt.

A point on slides worth mentioning is the one that contains the kitchen table operates in a fundamentally different way. At least on our bus anyway. And I think on many others. Anyway owing to CC wanting to keep the slide floor somewhat even with the main bus floor, that slide actually slides down a small incline.
This causes the floor of the slide to drop in height with respect to the main bus floor. The issue is when retracting the slide as the gear motor and rack system must pull it up a small inclined plane. It results in HUGE amounts of torque until the slide clears the inclined lip. You can hear the motor struggling to overcome this load. I suspect this doesn't help the life of shear bolts, mounts, motor or gears. Last I checked that gear motor assembly was around $800 with no options to replace the cheap gears inside which ultimately strip. At 800 clams, I don't think gears should be striping. Especially since the mfg knows well the service this is put to. What I do is use silicone lubricant along the gliding surfaces (on that slide only) which works out to some 12' on my bus. I also clean all the slides (top, bottom and sides) before retracting them. It helps ease the forces of static and gliding friction. The idea is to help the motor and mechanism do its job with minimal abuse. Every little bit helps.

BTW, my bolts were a bit loose too. I caught this in a routine inspection. Safe travels to one and all.

I had problems with mine and the problem was the factory bolts were replaced with standard bolts. The factory bolts have a long shoulder so they fit tighter and have more strenth. Once replaced have never broke another. One thing i learned is the motors have more torque then the system can handle so stopping once movement stops is required. You dont want to stay on the switch to long. Repair is simple. The wheel well covers come off with 4 bolts i think then you will see the shaft. The hard one is the one over the propane tank. You have to be small enough to get in the door.I ordered the correct bolts from power gear.
