Freedom 20D and 8D batteries....the never ending saga!

Back to my battery problem! I take off work today and get the panels off where I can see th "black box" and Im on the phone with "Invertrix"..?? (sp) Im reading voltages everywhere and the dude tells me that if the voltage in the batteries is below ( about) 12.5.....the box wont "invert" Ok..I can see that!

And then he also tells me is the voltage is UNDER about 12 volts....the CHARGER WONT CHARGE!..??? I though thats what a charger was for!!!! Geeze! Soooo Im back to my new stand alone charger to see if I cant get the 8D's up to 12V or higher..so the charger will work ( IF it works??) He also told me there are 2 slow blow fuses inside that I may have to remove the box ( no small feat)....open the cover and remove it and replace them if they are bad.....AFTER I see if it wil work by bring the batteries up in voltage.

BTW...one measures 12.9 now...the other 11.8...so keep your fingers crossed for me!

It certainly sounds like you have a bad cell.
Unfortunately that is not an unusual problem, just anoying as heck.
The hydrometer test will verify that quickly and tell you exactly which cell it is as if this makes you feel any better. I have a bit of a problem with the statement of "it won't chargr.......". Remember they are in parrallel when being charged, so the charger does not see the low battery as a seperate entity. Admitedly some chargers must see some battery voltage potential in order to comense charging, but His statement needs clarification. If you isolate the ofending battery and put it on an external charger for a period, and the voltage still remains sub standard , you can make book on a bad cell. Again the hydromeret test is the real thing. Voltage is not the conclusive indicater of state of charge of an 8 D.

Sully,

I think you're finding what many others have experienced, that these coaches do not act normal when voltage gets low---be it battery voltage or 110 voltage. I'm very careful with where I plug in and monitor my batteries regularly.

Been there, done that
