Bus-Kote vs boating world Fiberglass Deck Paints

I know several CC owners have applied the Bus-Kote roof finishes. But I was wondering if any of you have looked into the boating world's Fiberglass Deck Paints as another roof coating option?
We are getting ready to change out our solar panels, and once I remove the old ones, I thought this would be a good time to coat the roof prior to the new solar panels install.
While I have done my best to maintain the roof the last three years since we bought the coach. The first owners neglect still rapidly shows thru via chalking. I also need to recoat the clear coat on the front cap, as that too was too far gone when we took over the coach.

Any opinions on Bus-Kote vs Deck Paint coating?

Bus Kote claims to have integral insulating properties. I doubt that fiberglass deck paints would provide any insulation. I believe this would be the main advantage of Bus Kote. I've applied Bus Kote to my last 2 motorhomes & have been pleased with the results. It's actually a 3 stage process: 1) primer, 2) bus-kote & 3) clear coat.

Don't know anything about the deck paint(s) but love the Bus-Kote, wouldn't have a rig with it.

I had to jump in on this subject.

I have had Bus Kote on my roof for five years. I reapply a single coat once every other year. It was easy I even did it myself. Below are what I consider to be the major improvements :

It acts as an acoustical sound barrier

It will drop the temperature inside you coach by 10 degree easily

In cold weather it is a great insulator.

I took the Bus Coat and painted over my Sky Light over the shower. Prior to the painting on a hot day when I walked by the shower it was going past a furnace. I still get plenty of light but the Green House Effect is absolutely minimized. ( I called the Tech at Bus-Kote before I painted the Sky Light and he indicated no problem, in fact it may preserve the plastic, because of the heat reflected and not transferred to the plastic. )

If you check with school districts that bus students you will find they use this product for many of the same reasons above.

I almost forgot ---- YOU WILL ELIMINATE WHITE STREAKS FROM YOUR ROOF DOWN THE SIDE OF THE COACH.

I painted our Country Coach roof with Interlux Bright Sides Polyurethane one part marine bright white paint, mixed with a non skid additive. This paint is used on fiberglass boats and holds up well in the sun and with flexing. I considered using the two part paint but decided that for a roof application, I didn't need to be as particular. I brushed it on (one coat), rather than using a roller and the brush marks flowed so they are not visible. (I added the non skid as I don't like being on a wet roof which can get mighty slippery from dew, rain or even sweat dripping off on a hot day.)
I no longer get any oxide run off down the side of the coach. I applied the paint a few months ago and fully expect it to hold up as well as I have seen on boats where the only issue I have noted is that the paint will wear from walking patterns-not an issue on a roof of a RV.

Thank You for the idea of non - skid additive. I never thought to do this on the roof, but I will throw in the paint next time some fine sand/silt that will produce a non skid surface.

I too have applied the bus-kote, and am very satisfied with the product. Stan, I do have a question for you. Before applying a recoat. How did you prep the surface? We did put a sealer on the roof after the bus-kote. Did you remove the sealer or paint over it? Mine has been on about 3 years.

Has anyone used or researched the product that Camping World installs? They quoted me $2000 to do, which is a little high, BUT.... They have a 12 year warranty! I have always been plagued with water issues and a warranty would help me sleep well at night. The maintenance is just washing, no yearly re coating etc.

Unfortunately, you have to suspect ANYTHING that CW does these days. Didn't use to be so but it is now. CW generally charges to much for any instal and does not want to pay enough to retain highly skilled and innovative technicians. I have no personal experience with CW roof coating products but when CW says their work in backed by a warranty, they are almost referring to the Manufacturer's Warranty. I broke down and bought a part from CW recently which failed after only 3 months. CW told me they would check with the manufacturer and call me back to let me know what the manufacturer would do. Days later, I have heard NOTHING from CW. I really don't expect to now. The part only cost about $300 so it isn't worth the pursuit on my part. Just learned another CW Lesson....

I agree, stay as far away from CW as you can. As far as I can tell, everything is overpriced even with the presidents club.

I simple sprayed water on the roof with hose removing most of the dirt. Then I used a hudson sprayer with lots of soap and water and sprayed the roof.
Finally, after letting it set for a while on a cool day or evening/morning I used a High Pressure Machine and carefully sprayed everything off the roof. Be careful to not get to close with the pressure gun. Let dry all day and the next day give the other coat. I have had no problem. In addition I put a seam of caulk all the way around the roof, forcing any rain water to go off the back of the roof. If you live in an area of lots of rain make sure your coach is tilted to allow the run off to the back.

White streaks from the roof are gone forever, Goggle Bus-Kote and you can order on line from I believe Florida. You cannot get it any other place because of air control rules. It is worth it
