Inverter Output = 92 Volts !

Today I disconnected shore power in preparation to move the coach. I checked the voltage in the 110 V outlets inside the coach and was surprised to see 92.5 Volts. The refrigerator continued to run, even the TV and Sat receiver continued to run. I fear that I'll burn out these units, so I started the generator and the voltage came up to normal. OOPS, I did not check the voltage for the refrigerator circuit.....that is on the second inverter, so that is probably OK.
Is there anything that needs to be reset on the inverter? Or is it "shot" and in need of repair or replacement?

If you have a MSW inverter and a meter that cannot handle square wave AC it will read about that you got. You voltage is probably okay. The difference is in the sine wave form.

Dennis,

Check the voltage on the studs (not the wires) of the inverter when it is running without shore power and confirm that it is getting at least 11.5 volts DC. If it is, the inverter is probably bad. In any event, it should never be putting out 92 volts and should have automatically shut down.

If you have a MSW inverter, you will need to measure your output with an RMS volt meter. A standard volt meter will give you an incorrect volrtage. Check around, you can buy a RMS meter for about $100.
