Hydro Hot and Engine Loop

Yahoo Message Number: 91682
I left one box of our CC provided manuals at home, which was not a very slick move on my part:)!
We have been using the Electric feature of our Hydro Hot for two days solid now, with it providing warm water and heating when it needs to kick onto augment our floor heat and small 1500w heater.
I do not have the Engine Preheat on, but have noticed the instrument panel Water Temp gauge is reflecting about 125 degrees. I would have expected this with the Engine Preheat on, but wondering if I have a manual valve I should be closing to the engine loop from the Hydro Hot?
I understand the loop is open while driving, and the engine loop heats the water so it is hot and ready when pulling into a camp. Is it supposed to remain open the full time, even when not driving or the ignition on?
I suppose it is not hurting anything, probably helping a bit with keeping all of the engine related coolants warm in cold weather. But the single element Hydro Hot in our Allure, is already working hard to provide the water and coach heating without needing to turn on the Diesel feature. I figured it would do a better job doing this by not also keeping the engine loop warm too.

Mostly just curious if I have a valve set wrong.

TIA, and best to all,
Smitty

Bump - And if I wrote this so poorly know one knows what the heck I'm asking, please let me know and I'll try again.
Not real important, but just wondering if I have a valve that needs working on to close until the 'Engine Pre Heat' is selected. If normal, what is the difference when you turn on the Engine Pre Heat?
I can also check on the HydronicRVHeating board too, but not sure if non CC's may be difference.

Thanks gang,
Smitty

Smitty,

I had no valves to control the coolant to HH loop in my '04 Allure. I think you are seeing the results of gravity heating. Installing gate valves on the loop would be pretty easy and would help with domestic heating in some small way.

Thanks George - Sure had me wondering, and the gravity flow is a real possibility. I need to schedule some of the preventative maint/upgrades on the HH. Planning on one of Roger's kits. Will look into one way check valves/gates at that time.

Best,
