Levelers

Happy Easter!

We're proud owners of a new to us 2001 Country Coach Allure. It has air suspension with the computer controlled air leveling system (HWH). It would not level in our somewhat steep driveway, but we're told that it was because our batteries need to be replaced. Those of you who have this leveling system, do you feel it's sufficient or should I invest in an electric leveling system And if so which one?
After taking a 20 year hiatus from trailer camping, we are excited to a new beginning. Our coach only has 28k miles on it and has been meticulously maintained (with records). Ours is a 32' which I understand is rare for CC. My wife and I are excited to join a motorhome group(s) and break this coach in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are located in Diamond Bar, CA.

/air leveling will only level a max of bout 5" difference front to back. You indicate your driveway is steep. It is probably more than the system can deal with.

John & Carol,

What does the touch pad say when it doesn't level? HWH told us that after trying to level for 10 minutes it the "excessive slope" indicator light should be on. It will never level on excessive slopes for safety reasons. Neither will any other levelling system without bringing the tires off the ground and putting blocks which is not recommended due to safety issues. We just left HWH Factory in Moscow Iowa and they have an outstanding service dept at the factory. They also will assist on the phone. They are getting very busy and it may be a long time before they call you back but it's worth a call. We have a 33' Allure and love it.

I have owned CC for 16 years and there are only three parks where I have ever had leveling issues. I there fore carry two four inch marine ply wood ramp blocks for the front wheels and tag and 1 double wide 4 inch block ramps for one set of duals. I made the blocks for my 36 ft 98 Allure and use them when necessary for the 42' Intrigue. Though batteries are necessary if not connected to shore power or running the engine, I have leveled my coach a few times with discharged batteries and have never had an issue/

John & Carol,

our coach is 36 ' and we boondock most of the time so get in some off level situations. I made 6 leveling boards that are. 2 X 12 that are 2 ' long and glued and screwed 3/4 marine plywood to keep the boards from splitting. Used 2' long boards to both rear duals are supported. We are in our 16th year of fulltiming in this coach. Hope you can enjoy your rig.

one other thing. The coach will level better if the engine is running.

As Mikee says the air levelling has a limited range, I have never measured mine but if Mikee says 5 inches I could not argue with authority, in theory it must be the difference between a deflated bag on one end and an inflated one the other. I have a set of levelling blocks but with duals and a tag this really only works for the front end. I have often thought that raising the tag and levelling would give me an extra angle but am concerned about the implications of weight distribution.
