Commode slide plate opens and closes (flushes) on an intermittent basis for extended periods of time; then the motor stops working again -- on Sunday 5/11/14 it stopped working. MH sat over night commode is working again today (don't know for how long -- subject to stop working and restart at any time).
It is important to mention Camping World took the commode out last year because tissue paper got caught in between the slide plate and the seal and the bowl would not hold water. It does hold water since Camping World repaired it; the stop and go began several months (Approx 5 months) after the repair.
Question: Is this something we can repair ourselves? -- If not does anyone know of any one in Virginia who is qualified in Country Coach motorholmes who can repair it? -- If not in Virginia anyone on the east coast?
Thanks to anyone who has had this problem or can direct us to the nearest facility.

Hi.

Some folks have removed these electric toilets, and replaced with a foot pedal design.
Seems that this electric has circut issues, and have caused issues like you describe.
You may want to consider the foot pedal replacement before dumping more $$ on it.
This is on my short list to do.

Commode is a water closet!!!!!! It is not a toilet! My better half, Carol, father and grandfather were plumbers of French distraction and calling a toilet a commode was guaranteed to get their German half blood pressure to boil and cause profanities being muttered under their breaths out of ear shot.

As a teacher of architecture, we don't typically use the word commode. However the word "water closet" is used for toilet (usually) and is labeled on blueprints as "wc" or water closet. I am referring to American architecture, but I believe most countries use water closet to describe a toilet.

Hello Kent,

Thanks for the information --- we have contacted Thetford -- they gave information on how to use manual flush when this happens in the future.
Thetford rep also gave us the name of a local authorized RV repair shop--we are going to have them test the toilet -- depends on what they say -- we'll change it if repair is not reasonable.

Again thanks for the advice.

Happy trails!!
