RV Comfort Thermostat Problem

Yahoo Message Number: 97476
Hi - I had a small problem with my RV Comfort thermostat. Some sort of a communications error out to the A/C control boards. Here's my chronicle and solution:

Scott, Yes I had the exact same problem I'll explain mine. First my 03 Allure uses the Dometic Comfort Control unit with 2 - Zones. I had several issues going on at different times some In the A/C mode some with the Heat Pump mode. Nearly every time things seemed to happen during evening/night time.

I replaced A/C Control Boards, Start Capacitors, Run Capacitors didn't fix the issues then the shop I use along with my input decided to divide the Zones and add a Comfort Control Station in the bedroom, we powered it off the closet light. I liked the idea so now at night we are much closer to changing temperatures with the station close by.

We tested things and all worked great but decided to leave the coach overnight and test again in the AM. The Technician came in very early the next AM to test the system and as he entered the coach he turned on the front most ceiling fluorescent light and went to the control station and turned on the A/C......NO A/C.

He then decided to go find the Fuse for the Front Dometic Comfort Station and in noted that this 20 amp fuse controlled the Dometic Comfort Station, Porch Light, Step Light, Step Switch, Entry Door Switch and CEILING LIGHTS. So he pulled the Fluorescent Light out from the ceiling, went and turn on the Dometic Comfort Station to A/C and WaLa, worked great, final analysis it was a bad Ballast In The Light Fixture all along and a light I had always turned on when entering coach in my barn before going to Dometic Station to turn on A/C or Heat Pump for testing.

I now carry 2 or 3 Ballast with me.

Scott: I've had the same problem; turned out to be a fluorescent bulb that was burned out, so the problem definitely exists, due to the ballast. Replaced the bulb and all is fine. BTW, if the fuse reset doesn't work, try unplugging the entire thermostat and waiting 3-5 minutes before plugging back in. The fuse didn't yield the same results in mine.

Interesting thread, and appreciate all of you sharing the tip about the 'loop' thru the other electrical demands as well as the thermostat control. I have the start of a flickering front ceiling fluorescent, and was not in any rush to fix it. (We're converting to LED, zone by zone, and these we hardly ever use and were going to be the last.

I would have never thought of this if (when) our thermostat started acting up!

Just such a neat group of current, and former, CC owners - all willing to help where they can. Salute to you all!!!
