We used RV Basic Training and were more than satisfied.

We had a very thorough two day (four hours per day) via the RV Driving School. They came highly recommended from the Escapees Forum's membership.

We hooked up with Don in Yuma, and were very impressed with his approach. Mechanical walk thru and visual inspection of the rig. (Probably more for his own survival, as I suspect he has seen a few coaches that may not have been up to snuff!!).

The RV Driving school has other instructors in the Southern California area, so if you can't hook up with Don - good chance you can find another well qualified instructor.

Try RV School to see if they have any instructors in your area. Just finished lessons with them in North Carolina and would recommend.

The RV Basic Training instructor lives in the Riverside area in Southern California. He showed up at our door at 8:15 AM to instruct my wife. He first did a classroom session in our home on our dining room table doing the presentation on a laptop showing some great visuals on what to do and not to do.  He then did a walk around our rig to show what should be done before each trip as well as showing us the basics of checking oil, trans fluid, and coolant. I learned something new and that was that the engine light is removable and can be used a trouble light-I never knew that. At that point he took us about 30-40 minutes from our home to where my wife was taught how to park. Parking included how to park at a campground, but also included parallel parking, where she was taught how to parallel park in one step-it was amazing. My wife was then told to drive the 40 miles home in LA rush hour traffic, complete with traffic jams as well as free-flowing traffic. The instructor sat in the passenger seat and I was on the sofa while the wife drove.  The lesson ended at 5:30 PM.  We paid $450 and it was just as beneficial for me as for my wife. My wife now drives about 75% of the time and is very confident of her skills. I'm impressed.

Thanks, John.  This was great to read.  If anyone out there in our blog knows of other folks in the US who do this, I'd sure be interested in having a learning experience like this.  We live in MN and travel to MI and to the northeast as well as other places  less often.  Thank you.
