Entrance step will not extend.

Yahoo Message Number: 103981
I've just purchased a 2004, 40' Country Coach Intrigue. Upon completion of my trip back, I opened the door and no steps... I ensured the switch was in the correct position and still nothing. Any help would be most appreciative.

If you have the manual there is a check out procedure, if you don't I think there is one on line.  I've had that problem several times and it's been the door switch.  I think in the 04 coaches that switch is spst NO.  Mine is NC.  The easiest replacement is a push button that spdt then you can choose either.  I've replaced the control module and both of the step rails.

Either the motor is shot or the controller. Put 12v on the motor and see if it moves.  If not the motor is gone, if so, the controller is probably gone, unless there is a loose connection somewhere.  Kevin has both motors and controllers.

The most common cause is a bad ground connection.

Mine steps stop 3 or 4 times a year. What I have to do is open up the first bay door under the driver and hit the track a couple of times with a hammer. I don't know why it stops but it does. Maybe the gears get out of alignment.

It works for me.

This reminded me of something.  We were parked next to a CC and their step would not extend.  I noticed that when the door was opened you could hear the motor start then stop.  We opened the door and both yanked the step and it extended.  The way the controller know the step is all the way in or out is it senses the motor stall current then shuts off.  If the step is jammed enough to stall the motor it will shut off.  Just a thought.

I had this same problem three years ago . I reversed the polarity on the motor, no problem since then . When I was Country Coach in Jumction City Or. I talked to them about it and was told that at times they do the same.

I spray the moving components of my steps about once a year with Blaster Dry Lube. Made with PTFE. No more problems.
