Toilet losing water

Yahoo Message Number: 105421
My Sealand Traveler Toilet (Model 2010) loses water in the bowl in a short period of time. Is it most likely the seal that is the problem? How difficult is it to change? Where do you get a seal from? Kevin Waite-Can you get me one?

I ordered the seal for mine from Amazon. Dont know if they will have yours, but I'm sure Kevin can help. Took about 45 minutes to replace. Would have been shorter had I done it before.

You can also find the parts online or at most local RV parts supply stores, but first I would clean it. Get a 'fine' 3M scuff pad (I use a red one), put on gloves, shut off the water, let most of it drain, then scrub the ball and the underneath (ball side) of the seal. Doesn't fix it every time, but we have had small bits of TP get stuck on the underneath side of seal.

Changing the parts isn't all that hard, but it helps to have a tool chaser assistant, or don't forget a tool when you get down on your knees or butt.

We have a 98 Intrigue and never replaced the seals!! I pull them and clean them every 2 years or so. Takes a bit. Use a plastic scraper. Keep thinking I'll change them but when I pull them and clean decide to go another couple of years.

Though we do not have the same make, another tip when cleaning, is to add some CLR to that 3M scrub pad. Hard water build up can also cause problems too.

We have not yet decided what we're going to do with ours. in the 5-6 years we've had only 8-9 months where our Theftford Aria II has held water. Repair twice by competent tech's. It's not just the fact that the seals don't seem to last long for us (Others in another thread here, have said they've had better luck with this unit then us. Happy for them.), but it is the 'Prepare to dive!' loud electronic noise of the unit and flushing mechanism. So loud, we usually do not flush overnight... Will sort out what to do with this over the next few months.

Good luck on yours, hope a good cleaning takes care of it for you.

Best to all,

Smitty

I should have added to my last post that last year when I did replace the parts, I also replaced the spring pack as it seemed the ball was not always closing completely. The spring pack needs to be removed to replace the ball so it was no more work, only more $. Don

NO, do not use Vaseline! It will congeal and make a mess. Use plumbers grease. You can get it at Lowes in small containers about the size of a silver dollar and only 3/8 inch thick.

Plumbers grease will do fine but Vaseline has served me well for 35 plus years so I guess I'll use it for the duration. Never had it make a mess yet !!
