Exhaust tip for 1998 Allure

Now I come to see the exhaust tip, the short (roughly 8" I guess) fat pipe that fits on the end of the muffler has rotted out and fallen off. Quality stuff! :>(

Anyone had to replace one of these and were you able to find one somewhere locally?

hi at first I thought i could just replace the tip but shortly therafter the muffler rotted out also, fortunately the muffler from CC was relatively cheap, i went to NAPA and ordered a ehaust tip that gets the exhaust away from the body, of course CC had the muffler but no clamps hope this helps.

Dan & Ann,

I got a new piece from a local truck supply. I just cut it off to the length I wanted.

Steve, thanks for the tip. I was able to get one from a local truck supply as well and they cut two of them out of the same piece of pipe for a whopping $8. I'm going to have the other one chromed.

Just a tip (get the pun) You can buy exaust extensions from JC Whitney online for a lot less than the chain stores. I was able to replace my rusty factory extension with an exact size stainless steel job.

I purchase a chromed Exhaust tip for my 2000 Allure. However, when I tried to install it, I could not remove the old Exhaust pipe extention. I was able to remove the clamp, but could not budge the tip. Even tried a chisel and hammer, but no luck.
Any tips or information on removing the old exhaust pipe tip would be appreciated.

Dick, I had the same problem with a 200 Intrigue I owned. I finally took it to a muffler shop who heated it and it pulled right off. Trouble is, the torch is awfully close to the fiberglass, so make sure they're carefull. Interestingly, my 03 Allure came equiped with chrome (or stainless, I'm not sure which it is) tips for the engine, generator and Hurricane exhausts.

Dick,

I had the same experience as you. Due to the fiberglas I didn't want to use heat. I used a 4" hand grinder & ground a slot through the extension from the inside out. Once I had about a 4" long slot it pulled right out.

Hope this helps.............

OK...where did you get the tip? I would like to either replace the tip with a chrome or polished SS tip or even a sleeve. Exhaust is 5" in diameter and about 5-1/2" long. It is a bit close to the fiberglass cutout, so material thickness may be critical for a good fit.

Jim,

I got a chrome piece of tubing from a local truck supply. It was about $30. I was able to cut two pieces out of it.

I got a piece of chrome exhaust pipe from a truck salvage yard. The had a piece from a wrecked truck. The piece was long enough for 2 pieces for my coach. They charged me $7.50 for the piece.
