Domestic Battery Disconnect

Yahoo Message Number: 8461
I am surprised to discover there is no battery disconnect switch which cuts off both house batteries on my new CC Allure 36'. Yes, there is a "house battery disconnect switch" (a "rocker" switch) located on the passenger side pedestal right below the entry slide control switch. However, this switch energizes a relay which cuts off 12vdc to the Domestic 12VDC Distribution Fuse Panel. This relay apparently remains energized (drawing current, as well as the Inverter/Charger and its Remote Control Panel. Apparently also the Hydronic Heat, Generator, Air Compressor and Echo-charger continue to receive 12VDC. So the so-called "Battery Disconnect Switch" doesn't really disconnect the batteries from everything. This is verified by the Inverter/Charger Remote Panel showing a draw of -1 to -2 amps thru the shunt after the switch is thrown.

I keep my coach in a secure, covered storage place which has no AC power to plug into. I am not allowed to (and would not want to) set the generator to automatically run while under cover and unattended.
I leave it unattended for periods longer than the 8 or 10 day capacity of the batteries being drawn down at 2amps continuously.
I would like to have a REAL battery disconnect switch to prevent full discharge of my batteries while parked between trips.

I see on the schematics furnished with my coach (there are at least three drawings describing the relevant battery - disconnect circuitry ---- each drawing being different!)that apparently some coaches have a REAL disconnect switch and not a remotely operated relay.

I was told by CC that my observations seem correct and that if I really had to power things down, I could unbolt the battery ground lead at the battery!! They did not seem to understand that it wasn't a matter of my being peculiar, or fussy, but rather simply a matter of not wanting completely discharged batteries everytime I leave my coach for a couple weeks.

Are there any readers here who have a REAL switch? Was it a standard item delivered with your unit? What brand, model switch do you have?

I have installed similar disconnects for multiple 8D battery installations on yachts and don't understand why CC has not done so here.... for safety reasons, if no other.

I store my 2000 Allure at an outside storage yard in Michigan. My coach is factory equiped with a disconnect for both House and Chassis Batteries (located in the passenger side rear compartment with the air and fuel filters). There are still some small loads even when the battery disconnect is on.
I try to charge the house batteries every 2-3 weeks. However, sometimes when I am not in the area I go as long as 4-5 weeks between charges( in the summer). My Batteries are the original 8-D batteries and are probably getting ready for replacement. But even in the Winter, I can usually start my Generator from the house batteries after 3 plus weeks of outside storage (temps in teens or lower)

Dick,

Get some solar panels and they will solve your battery drain. My original batteries are 40 months old and they still work great.

Florida sun is intense, but not bright enough to penetrate the cover I'm under!

Hmmmmm.... You DO have a Domestic (House) battery disconnect. When you disconnect you still have "some small loads"? Do you know why?

What is the Brand and Model of your house disconnect switch?

Thanks for reply,

Sorry, the Coach is currently in storage a few hundred miles away, so I can't access the information on the Brand and model of the house disconnect switch.
I understand that some electronic components are bypassed by the disconnect switch so that memory setting and other functions are maintained. Someone else will have to give you the specifics of the electrical components bypassed.
