Fluid leak

Appears to be hydraulic fluid dripping a little from this hose just behind drivers tire. 1999 Magna #5661. Where from, why, and the solution please. Thanks

Most likely your slide is going to quit working. I had the same problem and ended up driving back to Texas from Mississippi with my slide out. I'm getting all hydraulic lines replaced. I'll be driving from Texas to Tucson with the slide out. Fun fun!

It doesn't appear to be a hydraulic line. Could it be a crankcase breather tube from the generator?

I have no problem with my slide; works beautifully. The issue I have is a slow drip from a discharge line directly behind drivers tire. See pic

My 02 Intrigue has a tube at that location that is to drain water from a catch-trough that catches any water that might come in through the slider seal. It might be that your hydraulic line has started to leak and it's being caught by that trough. Located behind the drivers seat, I had to remove a wood column which also conceals fabric on a roller which, when slide is open, conceals the mechanics of the slide. Might want to check the hydraulic line on the front edge of the slide to se e if it has begun to leak.

No, not only are you fighting the springs and when you try to ratchet it in you are pulling from down low so the bottom comes in but top stays out.

You can retract the slide manually. Instructions are in the owners manual. You need a hefty rachet strap, which was part of the rig when new, but you can get one easily enough if you don't have it. I'd be very reluctant to drive with it open!

Thanks Don, all I can say is it is a piss poor design. No strap under bed, bought a come along. As you ratchet it in it only comes in at bottom not at top. Only came in about 6in at bottom. Drove it from Memphis to Kerrville, very carefully. Wil do the same getting it to Tucson. I did consult with Eric Olstrom about the dilemma while in Memphis and he said nothing else we could do to get it in. Thanks for your concern.

John is right, that is where the hose for the drain cup for the front slide seal exits. In fact I posted a picture of this cup/roller on this site a few days ago. You would have water coming out though, not hydraulic fluid. But I have an electric front slide so I wouldn't know if hydraulic fluid could get into that cup.

Do you have the instruction for retracting the slide from your CC manual. Could you scan or take a picture of it and post it. I've looked on the HWH site and they have plenty of instructions but the CC instruction would be appreciated.

Slide related fluid would be my first guess in that area of the coach as well. It didn't seem like you had a picture attached, but I also think of the condensate line that comes down in the wheel well right behind the drivers tire. I wouldn't expect anything except water to be coming down that though.

HWH has pretty good manuals and descriptions on their website. Here's an iRV2 post that has a little info. I think mine started as a slow leak, until enough fluid that was trapped in cavities started dripping out.

Most of the slide related hydraulic lines are somewhat visible in the top of the storage bays, though might have to loosen and lower the ceiling panels of the storage bays. With the slide out, can also look between slide bottom and bay tops to look for fluid in the channel (pictures would help describe this, but I don't have access to any currently). For the front rail of the front slide, should also be able to look into the space above the fuel tank from the passenger side access door by the fuel door. With a good flashlight look straight in and should see the rail and box and two lines running to it. This all assumes your '99 Magna is similar enough to my '00 Affinity 42'.

Might also check the HWH fluid reservoir to see if it is getting lower. I think you check that with slides in, not out.

All I can tell you as far as manually retracting the slide, on my 02 Magna at least, there is a big eye hook on the wall in the cabinet under the kitchen sink. There is a thing that came with my coach kind of like a come along that attaches to that eye hook and at the other end to the steel support braces for the dining room table. I have an all electric slide and it is very complicated because you also have to physically disconnect all the linear actuators. How that part works with a hydraulic slide room it's probably different and my guess is much simpler. I would start for looking for that big eye hook somewhere towards the middle of the front slide probably in a cabinet.

My Coach is in storage and the manuals are in it. Next time I'm there I'll try to remember to pull the manual, bring it home and PDF those pages. But at my age, I'm very likely to forget. So I would recommend if you need that, you email me - that will "stick" in my TO DO list much better than this forum thread...
