ABS Warning Light

Anyone out there have the ABS warning light appear on their dash panel? If so, what was done to fix this problem? Thanks.

My ABS light comes on periodically. Last year CC "fixed it" I think 3 times. A few months ago the coach was in for service and it came on. They also "fixed it" and of course charged me for it. But, it still comes on.
From what CC told me, it is a loose wheel sensor. On this coach, it has something to do with the tag axel. Usually, I can stop and turn off then engine for a couple of minutes and when I start up again, it is gone.

If your coaches have a tag axle, the answer to the ABS light coming on is simple---if you let the tag down when moving it sometimes gets out of sinc with the other wheels. There is a re-set switch located in the first compartment under the driver ( where the fuse box is located).The reset switch is located to the rear of the compartment and is a lighted toggle switch. I had the dealer "fix " this problem a couple of times before a CC Tech showed me the reset at a CCI rally.
If you don't have a tag I can't help you.

The CC tech had me use this toggle to diagnose the problem---a loose sensor.
But, using the toggle did not reset it. But, it definitely has to do with the tag. I just don't know what I am doing for it to come on sometimes and not others. But, at least I can make it go off---most of the time. And when it doesn't go off, I don't worry about it.

When you understand the source of this "problem", you'll realize that this isn't a problem afterall and there is nothing that can be done to fix it, short of redesign of the ABS computer system. I'll explain...

The ABS computer system is designed to sense if any wheel is slipping while braking. A perfect example of this would be a tire slipping under heavy braking on wet or icy roads. The ABS computer uses a sensor at each individual wheel to determine if that wheel is spinning at the correct speed relative to the speed of the coach and the other wheels. When the computer sees that a tag axle wheel is not spinning, it thinks that wheel is slipping and it disengages the brakes on that wheel. NOW, the ABS computer now expects to sense that the wheel is spinning again at the correct speed, and when it does NOT start spinning as expected, the ABS light turns on indicating a "problem".

Well, since our coach has a liftable tag, the wheel does not spin when the tag is lifted and the sensor thinks this is a "problem", so it lights the ABS warning light.

In reality, we all know that the tag wheel does not normally spin when the tag axle is lifted.

So the only real solution is to have the ABS computer disengage the tag sensors when the tag axle lifts. In this way, the ABS system could care less what the tag wheels are doing when they are lifted.
In this way, the tag axle would never cause a false ABS warning light.

So the moral of the story is, DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE ABS LIGHT. It will automatically reset after several ignition cycles.

AND... You should NEVER mess with the reset paddle either (in the compartment under the driver's seat). This reset paddle has several other functions that depend on how long the paddle is depressed and messing with it can cause other problems with the ABS computer system. I know because I messed up mine trying to reset the ABS and learned the hard way to just LEAVE IT ALONE.

Good advice on the ABS light, I agree with you and that is the same explanation CCI has for the ABS light.
