DataStorm works again

Well, we finally got parked and called Ground Control and they talked us through getting this thing going again. The system is an F1 with .74 meter dish and DW4000 modems, using SatMex5. The guy was patient and professional so that took the fear of the unknown away as far as getting into the cabinet and looking at electrical components. Basically he had me pull the power cord out of the top modem (essentially "re-booting"), I guess. Anyway, it worked and I'm "on-line" via the satellite here in Las Cruces, NM.

I am very happy with the Ground Control folks. Very friendly and helpful. Maybe I can settle down now and start enjoying this gizmo.

Now if the Bose system had not quit working (it no longer reads
DVD's, just CD's), I'd really be a happy guy!!!

Glen: Remember that "boot". It's the first thing to use when the sattelite dish goes bonkers. Seems to work on either Direct TV or Dish. I've had 'em both. It's usually the first thing they have you do for their systems also.

Happy to see your back online, I found both Ground Control and Datastorm to be good to work with. With respect to the Bose System I had the same problem. Go to their web site, (www. Bose.com) and let them know.
When I did they sent a CD with a software update. It still didn't work properly, so they gave me an authorization to return the unit. They replaced the CD/DVD reader and it works OK. They are also nice to talk to.

If you're refering to the Bose 321 system, I have had mine loose it's program twice now. I also had them send me an update disk, and it works great again.

Part of the reboot process is to power it down for about 5 mins.
If your system is similar to mine, the system power goes to the subwoofer, which in mine is hidden in a closet. The only way to "power it off" for 5 mins is to shut down the house power.

Unplugging the power to the Bose system did the trick -- it now works again! Thankfully, we could unplug the power from the back of the unit, so was much easier than what you had to do to yours. "Re- booting" just does wonders to electronic equipment, doesn't it!!?
I've taken the advice of others here and have relaxed more than ever the last two days. I'm just starting to really enjoy the trip! Only took me just over 4 weeks and right at 4,000 mi. to figure it out! Too bad the factory can't have a "course" for newbies to train us in the driving/handling of the coach, and in happy traveling tips with the new RV. I know rallys do this, but they are not convenient always -- not on my clock just after purchasing this coach, anyway.

I had quite a list for CC, but we're fixing lots of them, so the list is getting shorter.

The front privacy curtains -- driver's side -- when I push the button to close them, and they close, the motor keeps running until I push the close button again. It used to go off when they fully closed. Do you have a fix for that?

Our Splendide needs a new circuit board installed, and the company sent us a new one in Utah. Haven't stayed put long enough to have a tech come out to fix it, though. We're at Beaudry's in Tucson, so might call Splendide on Monday to see if they have someone here who can come out.

For now, though, my biggest coach concern is with the driver's side dinette slideout on my Magna Chalet. It has developed quite a little "gap" where the caulking is on the front seam where the side wall is attached. Looks almost like the wall is pulling apart some.
The rear seam hasn't done it. I hope it's not serious, but that will be a Country Coach warranty problem. Looks like running the slide in has caused it to pull apart.

I have taken the classroom intruction they give at rallies and am planning to take the two day class next time I'm near an instructor associated with them.

I just thought I would add my 2 cents to this post and your other posts about a stressful start to using your motorhome.
I have a 40' Magna and I am a solo fulltimer for over 2 years now. I have learned that it is best to take small bites, and savor the meal rather than gulping it down and missing the fun! I have learned to avoid places that I know might be tight for the motorhome, and use the toad to go where no motorhome should go. It is easier to do this if you don't try to cover too much territory all at once. Try to focus on one state or one route or one area and limit your driving to 200 miles or less sometimes if there is alot to see. Then stay long enough to have rest days to chill out and do nothing as well as to sightsee. What is the point of touring the country if it is not going to be memorable, relaxing and fun? If you are stressing out, it defeats the purpose and you need to reexamine what you are doing wrong.

In time you will get into a routine and get used to driving and you will not be so worried about your motorhome, however you can make up checklists until you do so you can relax. Make up different ones for different issues... Like preflight checks, inside, outside. Leaving for a tour checks... etc. Eventually this will be part of a routine and you will have a checklist in your mind. Planning ahead is helpful to avoid panic or worrying.
Being solo, I have to review the next day's roadmap so I am prepared for road conditions and issues since I cannot rely on a navigator to help with. I also purchased a Streetpilot III to help me navigate and it mostly works like a charm, but not always so I am prepared with a cheat sheet on the dash just in case. I have never had to unhook to get out of a situation, but I have had to backtrack and one time did an unbelieveable turn around on dirt that was a real heart pounding squeaker. Love that 55 degree turning radius! I know from my experiences that I can manage most issues if I do not panic.

I had it installed when it was just out of beta 2 years ago and it has undergone tremendous changes to where it is now. It is fabulous! Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are issues occassionally, but they are so minor and so unusual, I cannot even remember the last one. I manage all my financial information as well as keeping in touch with people and getting information about anything, anytime, anywhere because of access to the internet in just a couple of minutes. But I had one of the best install mine and he has given support after the sale, unlike your installer who I have heard complaints about before on numerous occassions. My installer might assist you for a fee if you could not get help any other way. I suggest you learn the basics about what you got installed so you can communicate with someone in case you get into a bind again. You should have a manual or you can download one from Motosat. I recommend that if you are willing to pay for help and nothing else seems to be working, and you cannot get help from the datastorm users website you call Bill Adams. I have his information in the links. He is really good and can get you up and online quickly, if anyone can. I am sure if it is a quick fix, he would not charge you. But you have to work that out with him. When people ask me about my satellite, I always recommend him without reservation. He and his wife Janet are tops! I know how frustrating it can be at first and the model and software you have now is heads and tails above from what we had in the beginning.
There were a LOT more bugs in the beginning that are gone now. One thing you have to realize is that it can be a satellite problem, radar detector interference, bad weather, or a Hughes issue that are temporary. When something persists, you need to get more help. Just don't panic!

Relax, for every problem there is a solution...

I hope you can figure out what made this trip not so fun and make some changes for the next trip. Otherwise there is no point to having this wonderful motorhome! Prepare well, Relax and enjoy... you have insurance right? :-)

No problem! I hope you enjoy your coach as much as I. I have to pinch myself every now and then to be sure I am not dreaming. And even after the aggravating things involving repair stops and inconveniences... I feel like I am very blessed to be able to follow my gypsy dreams...

It will all get more relaxing in time and with experience. You will also experience aggravating things that will not work or need repair- but remember to keep it in perspective after you have let off steam... always think "it could be worse..." you could own a S.O.B!!! ( some other brand...) Then you'd REALLY have issues...
