Creeping slide ...

Yahoo Message Number: 14007
Weird problem just popped up on our new Affinity.
I just noticed our driver side bedroom slide creeps out. I pulled it in, and watched it slowly creep back out.

Funny, the coach has 3500 miles on it from delivery to FL, and our short trips since we got it. Never had a problem until now.

It will drive in and out fine, but once in it creeps out again.

I assume there must be air in the system somewhere, acting as a spring, pushing the slide out.

I called Lazy Days and they said bring it over (30 miles), but I can't drive it. Calling them back this am to get someone over here, but until then I am going to mess around a little.

Any suggestions ???

I will also call HWH and see what they say.

Thanks ...
John

John,

If it's HWH hydraulic, maybe one of the pressure release screws on the pump is not tight. Hope you don't have a hose leak releasing pressure.

If it's electric, the brake lever on the motor may not be set. I had the exact problem and found the lever half way between release and brake on the motor thanks to Lazydays. The motor is under the bed.

Let us know what you find...

John:

I had the same problem. Turned out to be faulty solenoids which were replaced by CC under warranty.

It is a HWH system. We had this on our Journey also. I like the hydro better than the electric (like our Dutch Star) but it can be messy and does fail. I'm a part time farmer, so a little hydraulic fluid doesn't scare me to badly.

I assumed it was a bad valve, or at least hoped it was. Just talked to the Lazy Days tech, and he also said this. The problem is that I am stuck ... can't take it over there. They are checking to see if someone can make a quick trip to Polk City ... 30 miles.
I have never changed one of these, but have read on rv.net many times that it is pretty painless. Not sure how much fluid will leak out and if bleeding the line will be necessary.

I am still curious what is pushing the slide out. A little hydro back pressure would make it move some if there was no resistance on the other side of the cyl, but the slide comes all the way out, that's quite a bit of flow.

Anyway, we will see what happens. We weren't going anywhere anyway, so no biggie.

Thanks,
John

Just curious, would overfilling the hydraulic reservoir cause that problem?

Lazy Days is sending someone over tommorrow afternoon. I guess that's a good thing.

If you check the schematics on the HWH site, you will see this is not just a four way valve and double acting cyl. For some reason they pressurize the 'cap' side all the time (switch on), and either vent the other side, or pressurize it. The differential in effective area determines which way the piston moves. Not sure why they do it that way, unless its to limit the extend force or make the plumbing easier.

All indicators point to a bad retract valve, including the troubleshooting guide on the HWH site.

We will see.

Lazy Days was just here. The tech was a very nice, knowledgeable guy.

Took him about 20 minutes to change both valves for that slide.

Looks good at this point.

Chaulk one up for LD ...

Thanks for your inputs here ...

Our new Mag did that once about a month a go, on the bedroom slide. I ran it in and out about 4 times, took the key out and everything was fine. has not done that since, maybe some air in system from manufacturing.

The tech that came to our house said that even a small piece of foreign material lodged in the valve seat can cause troubs. He said to do just what you did to wash out crap.

Did not work for me ...
