Problems, but no big deal ...

Our trip from our home in NJ to Key West has been eventful.
First we had a problematic install of a water heater bypass at NJ's Camping World, and it took several overnighters in their parking lot before they got it to stop leaking.

Second was the voltmeter problem I previously wrote about (bad connection on the back of the meter).

Thirdly ... when we turned the water pump switch on and left it on ... the pump would cycle every 10 minutes or so, which made me think my winterization failed and the plumbing split somewhere. A thorough check failed to locate a problem, but the constant cycling was unacceptable 'cause we'll be dry camping for periods up to three weeks at a time for four months. Anyway, when I winterized, I had removed the onboard water filter element from the filter housing and neglected to replace it when I de-winterized. On a whim yesterday, I removed the housing and installed a new filter ... and voila! ... no more mystery pump cycling. I can't think of a cause/effect which would explain the filter's presence solving the problem. I surmise that the housing was simply loose in the first place, allowing air to enter the system. Regardless ... one more problem solved.
Fourthly ... my driver's side convex (wide angle) mirror simply fell off while we were cruising down the highway and is now somewhere on I-95.
Undoubtedly in many pieces. Is my best bet to get a replacement from CCI?
Other than that ... all systems are working great! We overnighted in the Micosukee casino parking lot last night ... ran the TV from the inverter for two hours ... and it had no noticeable effect on battery voltage. So nice to not have to put up with the genset!

Hello Dick,

What is the lowest temp that you were in or wil be in? The reason that I ask if that during Christmas '01 we were in freezing temps for over ten days with the lowest being 2-5 degrees ovenight for about four nights. During this time we did not winterize and had no problem with freezing pipes.

This year we were in the low 'teens a week before we left NJ. And, since I hadn't yet had the water heater bypass installed, I had to rely on blowing the system out with air. Apparently I did a good job, as evidenced by the fact that we have no (known) leaks.
I think you were lucky, by the way. A NJ acquaintance's motorhome suffered severe damage to its plumbing system from freezing temps last year.
