Frozen fridge

Dave: It sounds like you have a broken solenoid. It's a 110v solenoid that is mounted on the back of the fridge framework and activated by an icemaker cam switch.
I just had mine out while diagnosing the problem of a non-working icemaker. It's pretty simple to replace. I wouldn't be surprised to find that it's a generic brand since it's 120v and probably available at an appliance store.
The plastic line supplying water to the system seems to have enough flexibility to withstand freezing but the solenoid is usually the first thing to freeze.

Good luck.

We are home 'till January, should I turn off the refridgerator or leave it on?
