I can no longer make the step stay out when parked

To all who responded to my plea for help, thanks very much. My problem turned out to be a simple fix. The four-way plug at some time was wrapped in electrical tape, which is why I had a hard time finding it.
Friday I drove in a heavy rainstorm and the old tape allowed water in, but not back out. Simply put, the plug was shorting out. I removed the tape, dried things out and bingo, working step again!

I hope all your future fixes are as simple. Thanks again for the advice.
