Poor Television reception

Yahoo Message Number: 19501
I have a '04 Allure with the omnidirectional, round stationary antenna. They call it omni directional I call it zero directional.
Everybody with a batwing antenna pulls in great reception while I get terrible picture and sound on far fewer channel. The signal booster works as the picture usually disappears when I turn it off and returns when I turn it back on. Thus, I suspect the antenna.
Do any of you with the omni have decent signal strength and quality? Has anyone had the same problem I am trying to describe and how did you remedy the situation?

Thanks for your help.

Hi George, we too have the omni antenna and had the same problem. We had a new coax put on from the antenna and now we have a great picture and we picup lots of channels. We were told that the coax that comes with the antenna is not good quality. Also, our antenna signal was being blocked by one of the A/C's, so we had it raised up before the coax was replaced. So I suggest that you check to make sure that the antenna is unobstructed and replace the coax and you should be good to go.

Dale/Candice,

Please tell me how you run a new coax from the selector panel to the antenna. Mine is on the opposite side of the coach and so I think it would be a bear of a job. Reception stinks. Even Winegard says the antenna is not worth a hoot. I tried two of them to no avail.

Lyle, we actually had it done at CC in service so I was not there when they did the replacement of the coax. However it improved the reception immensely. Maybe it wold be best to call one of the phone techs and ask about replacing the coax. Sorry I can't help more on specifics. Dale Hollick 05 Affinity 6370

George, I have an o5 Inspire with the omni antenae. On delivery, it would recieve nothing. The dealer replaced the ant , but it is still not as good as bat wings I have had previously. Ghosts are on most channels. Could be A/C interferance.

Just arrived on the board. We have an 04 Inspire and we are thinking of replacing the factory antennae with bat wings. Who has done this on their own?

Steve: One note for consideration: I have an older coach (99) but the antennas may be the same. My antenna has a built-in amplifier. It went bonkers a few years down the trail.
It seems that manufacturers will install an antenna that is amplified within the wing itself, or put the amplifier in the Winegard switch box in your component cabinet.
In my case, I was changing some components out at the time I diagnosed the faulty antenna amplifier, so I hooked up the Winegard amplifier and it works fine.
It might be worth a trip on top of your coach with a meter to see if (1) the antenna has a built-in amp. You can remover the cover in the center of the antenna and see the electronic duframis (that's the technical term) inside, and if so, is it working?

Steve,

I have a 2004 Inspire and the tv reception is also awful. If you replace the round antenna with the batwing and it is an improvement, I would appreciate any details on how you made the switch.

Thanks,

I have an 05 inspire also that had no reception. it still didn?t work after 2 omni antennas. I kept complaining to cc and they had beaudry rv install a bat wing at no charge. they called it good will. they know the omni;s are a problem. they have switched back to the bat wing style. I now get good reception with the bat wing.
